It would seem, a first glance, that these new releases are subjects which are following a 'well-trodden' path, however, both are offering some significant features in a scale which definitely deserves some consideration as an 'alternative' to the more traditional....
Two new 1/72nd scale releases are getting listed for release in July/August 2006. Dragon Models are happily continuing with their 'M4 Program' in this scale and, in the case of the Tiger, a new moulding is ALWAYS welcome:

DRA 7273 - M4A1 Sherman, Normandy 1944

At the outset, one of the most eye-catching features on this, is undoubtedly the inclusion of a hedgerow cutter:

Other features are:

- Brand new accurately scaled early cast turret

- Bolting strips with fine detail

- New rotor shield is accurately produced to scale

- Newly tooled gun shield

- Slide-molded one-piece gun barrel

- Commander’s cupola hatch can be assembled open/closed

- Movable periscope assembly is finely detailed

- Newly tooled early cast hull

- Slide-molded M4A1 hull bottom is newly tooled

- Driver’s and radio operator’s hatches can be assembled open/closed

- On-vehicle tools recreated in exquisite detail

- Finely detailed light guards and lifting hooks

- New Cartograf decal

DRA 7251- Tiger 1 (Mid Production) with Zimmerit

Again, a number of features are on offer in this new kit:

- NEW lower hull with authentic zimmerit coating

- NEW one piece sprocket wheel is convenient to assemble

- NEW one piece idler wheel
- Road wheels injected as a unit - convenient to assemble and saves time

- Turret and upper hull with realistic zimmerit coating

- One piece slide-molded barrel

- BONUS metal exhaust covers

- Metal cable included

- Photo-etched parts for upgrade details

- Dragon Styrene track links

- Cartograf decal with various markings

Again, more photos can be seen at the side...

Thanks Jim Great news The Tiger looks nice but not really my field of interest However I was amazed at the Sherman the level of detail for such a small scale kit and good lord look at the PE fret , tie downs in 1/72 !!!!!!!!!!!! oh my poor eyes :-) :-) :-) Ian

Amazing detail...I love the offerings of the Sherman! The hedgerow cutter is both awesome and quite accurate. Thanks for the report, Jim! ~Mark

Very nice, one of my favorite versions of the Sherman (the early M4A1 75 being #1). A definite must buy.

Loving the M4A1! This could be my first foray out of scale Forgive me Jim but I'll get my gripes out of the way first... ~No detail to the underside of the hull hatches? ~Annoying inaccurate pins on the foul weather attachment around the co-ax .30cal? Just like the 1/35 version... (I know, this IS being picky...) ~Hollow idlers AGAIN? But whoa. That PE looks great! Especially the rear-lights... And the Cullin device looks a bewdy... One piece plastic barrel? Lovely jubbly... The tools which I reckon in the past have had a tendency to ruin the look of a 1/72 tank appear to be of a good scale too... Good choice of decals too... One can only hope they bring this little lovely out in 1/35... I can wait :-) Cheers Brad P.S. Looking on the PE fret, there is an exhaust deflector. Were these used on early/mid M4A1s? And wacko the diddio... This is post 1000!
