News in from Takom has a Leopard tank coming our way that will allow your choice of Leopard.
Takom has announced another Leopard tank coming for our enjoyment. This release will allow the builder to choose between the Leopard 1 A5 or the Leopard C2. The kit will included movable wheels and suspension, Orochi workable track, photo-etched parts, and a figure.

2004 Leopard 1 A5/C2

Armorama would like to thank Takom for the update.

Wow Al, sounds like you better cut back on said coffee! You build your way, we'll build our way. It's all good... Jim

Did Takom address the shortcomings of the C2 MEXAS kit, like solid inner road wheels and solid moulded details on the hull sides? Thomas
What do you mean solid inner road wheel? What details are molded on hull sides? I thought MEXAS armor modules covered the hull sides?
On the Takom C2 MEXAS the shocks are molded to the lower hull rather than needing attachment. The road wheels have no detail on the rear sides. You are correct that the majority of these details are masked by the front side of the road wheels, the tracks, and the hull MEXAS. You can see sprue shot images on this previous thread... https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/217821&page=1
Okay, the shocks and bump stops for the torsion bar arms are molded on. Looks like to allow the torsion bar suspension to move, the shocks don't actually connect to the torsion bar swing arm, as it should for sake of accuracy. So it sacrifice quite a bit of hidden accuracy for the sake of movable suspension. Which sort of sucks.

Somehow I get this feeling that other producers will soon hijack the Leopard 1 train and come forward with further new kits. Object 279 or so comes to mind .... weirdest tank of all but 3 different kits popped up within a month. I think it is about time we modelers deserve a proper reproduction of this important tank Cheers Christopher

I was joking with my post...i.e...starting it with Haha. I am truly sorry if your hackles were raised and you feel slighted or offended. No need for that and that was not my intent. If you are interested in new figures and modern Canadian kits perhaps take some of your time to conduct research and gather information and make formal proposals to established model companies as to why they should create the kits you mentioned.

The C1 MEXAS requires an entirely new turret...the welded 1A3/1A4 turret with Canadian modifications plus a unique open turret bustle rack in addition to the C1 turret MEXAS. The hull MEXAS is the same as on the C2. One kit at a time gents...the Leopard C2 was only just announced.
Yes, you are right Jason, I had the Meng kit in mind... :-( and since Takom doesn't produce an A3/A4, then we might not see a C1 in the near future! :-( My bad...

Also, it wouldn't be a big deal now for Takom to offer a Leo 1, 1A1, 1A1A1m and 1A2. If they can offer a kit of the one off Soviet 4 track flying saucer tank, They should also offer a Leo 1A6, the one off experiment to put a Leo2 gun and turret front protection on a Leo 1.

C2 Tweak list if issues not looked at: C2 TAKOM Tweak List: 1) The MRS (muzzle reference sensor) located on the tip of the barrel is was too small and is the wrong size. Should be 50% bigger. 2) The canvas mantlet cover is incorrect for a C2 version, should have Velcro panels for the maintainers to work on the mantlet. The mantlet sim-fire plate should be 25% larger and add l shaped brackets. 3) The Commanders TRP sight cover is small, will need to be 25% larger. The TRP rubber seals require to be spit apart to look like two flat rings. 4) Leopard turret top should have a coat of anti-skid added. 5) Smoke grenade launchers missing chain for caps and launcher wiring. 6) The crew commander’s area has the wrong number of episcopes, missing one. Both turret hatches are missing combat lock hinges. 7) The antenna mounting units (AMU’s) are not the correct type, will need to be replaced. Missing flag post mounts left and right sides by the AMU’s. 9) The GPS antenna mount is wrong and will require to be modified. 10) Rear back bin, will require a coat of scale anti-skid on the top cover. 11) Missing the antenna bag under the back bin (not all had them mounted) 12) Supplied Jerry cans are incorrect shape. 13) The road wheels require back plate, and the hubs are the wrong shape. 14) The divers armoured cover for the episcopes require the wiper cable. 15) Missing the fording plug posts on left side of upper front hull. 16) Missing headlight & Horn cables. 17) The tow cables hull attachment points are way too thick, PE would fix this problem. 18) The rear driver’s tool box is missing the locking chain and stowage bracket and hinges are incorrect. 19) The rear track adjustor tool mounted on the rear deck to wrong. We operated with a modified type due to the Mexas side armour. And was never mounted there. 20) The gun crutch or travel lock is undersized by 25 %. 21) Tank telephone handle will require to be replaced as they are very noticeably L angled. 22) Will have to drill out gun crutch spare position brackets. 23) Missing rear side skirt half-moon brackets on both sides of the rear hull. 24) The C6 mount requires a gun travel lock, and not all had the MG version. The barrel is missing the barrel handle mount. These were taken from my TAKOM C2 MEXAS tweak list. Cheers Anthony Author Canadian Leopard Series DVD reference sets.
