News out of Dragon Models is the 8-wheeled armored car is coming back as a premium.
Dragon Models has announced that the Sd.Kfz.234/3 is back as a new premium kit. The kit number is not the only thing new, as the kit is stated to have new side fenders with photo-etched covers to allow the storage bins to be modeled open, if desired by the modeler. The driveshafts and tie-rods will also allow for the wheels to be positional. Sounds like some great updates to a great looking vehicle.

6786 – Sd.Kfz.234/3 schwere Panzerpahwagen(7.5cm) – Premium Edition

According to Dragon Models USA this new kit should be available in January 2014.

Great news, Kevin. Many of us had worried DML was dropping their Premium line.

I'm very happy to see this return, some of the older 234 kits were not only showing their age but becomming more difficult to find. This is such an aesthetically pleasing vehicle. I love the lines and endless diorama possibilities. I'm thinking this on a small stretch of wintery road casually covering the retreat of the figures from DML 6274 1st Luftwaffe Field Division (Novgorod 1944).

A new "Premium edition" of that great 234/3 kit? Ok. When first I saw the remark as to some of the older 234 kits were showing their age, I had a momentary onset of worry and concern and rushed to my closet to see how my current Dragon 234/3 kit was doing! I'm pleased to be able to report that it seems to be aging quite well in its box. Actually, it, like the other 3 "before Premium" Dragon 234/x kits, is really quite a spectacular kit with super nice detail and near-endless possibilities, IMHO! If this redo of the 234/3 kit is on par with Dragon's Premium redo of the 234/4 kit, I don't see much to get excited about. I am sure that there will be some detail changes - and some changes will be "for the better" by some, and "for the worse" by others. I have not encountered any difficulty with "steering" the wheels on the old kits, for example, and don't know of much gripe or lack being passed around about current details and features that really needed "fixing", but that's me. And, if like the Premium 234/4 kit, this new edition still does not make those big side crew hatches "positionable" - and a new kit still does not offer a mix of tire-tread types - MY biggest "gripes" about all of these kits still go. The changes mentioned so far don't say "Buy It!" very loudly. Just saying, of course! Bob

Yeah, we're still going to enjoy this one.

When the original kit came out, Dragon was offering optional update kits sold separately... Looks like you get most of that in the new kit ... That's about it.. Good news for those who don't already have the older update set... Not cool for those of us who spent more back then.. Rick
