A new announcement from Dragon shows that Sherman-holics can dream big, even if it means a bigger scale.
Well when you thought you had enough room on your model shelf, well Dragon will make you rethink that. Dragon has announced a 1/6 scale Sherman. Yes, that is not a type, a big scale for a famous tank. The M4A3 with 105mm is the next big release from Dragon, and according to Dragon, it will be big on detail too. It is stated that the wheels can rotate, the turret will turn, and even though it is big molding, there will be no deformation in the parts.

75046 – 1/6 Scale M4A3 Sherman 105mm Howitzer

According to Dragon Models USA the expected delivery date of the big Sherman should be March 2013.

Lots of scope for super detailing.

I haven't seen it in the flesh but if it's got less detail than the 1/35 kits then that's absolutely ridiculous. That thing should be hyperdetailed if it's 1/6th.

It isn't aimed at the Armour modeller but more at the battle Barbie brigade who don't want insane levels of detail and are obsessed with accuracy like a lot of the Armour modelling community. Al

Okay, I saw this way back but didn't feel I should react or respond, but now I am. I have known about the 1/6 Sherman for quite some time now and will get one this fall as my 'other' 1/6 items need a Sherman! And an Axis vehicle too as a JEEP, Kubelwagon and a Kettenkrad are just not enough. Oh, and two M5 Stuarts. ~ Jeff

Just received mine and, yes, the box is huge. Weight in box - 14kg (30.8#). I don't want to hijack this thread so if there is any interest in an OOB review with some photos, sound off and I'll put one together separately. I'm no Sherman expert by a long shot so those of you who are can point out the shortcomings. By the way the ID of the barrel is 17.5mm (105mm full scale). Whether the mantlet is right or if this kit is the M4A3 I can't say. Cheers, Rick

I picked mine up Saturday.$374. It is a scaled up version of a 1/35th kit, from the looks of it. As a modeler, I am confident I can bring the detail up to what it needs in this scale. It is lacking USA numbers on the decals. It is lacking a tow cable/ ends. It is lacking the mount for the .50 cal , but does have the barrel clamp on the TC coupola ring. It does include parts to make it a 75mm gun tank. Something about it screams M32B3 basis.

Let's have an OOB review that's what I say!

Where did you get it from Carl? That seems like a good price to me! Are you going to show us any pics of the kit and it's assembly? ~ Jeff

Yes I will be photgraphing as I build. I got mine from AA Hobbies, in Rhode Island. The owner seems to know I like big and unusual. Dora Trumpeter M-16 Tamiya RC Pershing etc. The bigeest blunder, is the back of the roadwheels. There is none! So, I will have to cast a molded copy from 1 roadwheel, to make backs in casting resin. The good thing is, at this size, it is easy to make small detail improvements. I willl be building it as an M4A3 75(W).As the correct barrel and inner and outer mantlet are on the "parts not to use section" I have next week off, So I will do the molding and casting. That alone will be noteworthy.
