..Weird in the best possible sense of the word (of course). Once again, Cyber-Hobby are taking one of DML's existing models and producing an unusual and interesting variant. In this case, the Early Pz.III in 1/35th Scale.
Now never having served in tanks or in submarines, the idea of combining both does tend to make one a little skittish. The New announcement from Cyber-Hobby is:

6717 - Pz.Kpfw.III (3.7cm) (T) Ausf.F "Operation Seelöwe"

Now, offhand, i'm not sure how many of these were built, however, there are a couple of points from the illustrations that should be correct. The measuring pole would have been fitted on the prototype - to measure the depth the vehicle could operate at. It would be unlikely to have been a production fitting. The vaccum-cleaner hoses (well that's what they look like) - one would have been for the exhaust and the other to give air to the crew. If I also remember correctly this was NOT like later amphibious tanks such as the DD Sherman, designed to be dropped off and 'swim' to the shore, this was designed to 'drive' along the seabed....

It was designed as a 'funny' to be part of Operation Seelöwe,(Sealion) which was the planned amhibious invasion of Britain...

Ooooooh, it's..... U-Panzer! Der Unter-See-Panzer. All a-board, folks! Time for a test-dive! Maybe it's Diver-Dan's hard-hat grown treads (I missed that episode but heard it was a doozy...). OK. It's Tom Swift in the adventure of the Amazing Submarine Tank! Ah, Kirk to Enterprise, Kirk to Enterprise, Over. Scotty here, go ahead, Cap'n! Scotty; beam me up, there's little sign of intelligent life down here! But it looks like a cool and different kit, regardless of how ill-advised the enterprise was! Bob

Personally, I think it looks like a really amazing subject. Tecnically, it'll be interesting to see how they do the vacuum-cleaner hoses...

The kit-art seems to suggest a "ribbed" hose, which would seemingly be like the modern thin-wall vacuum-cleaner (or, given the apparent size, more like the larger dryer exhaust) - type hose with the internal wire-coil frame. That does not match well with what the photos appear to show - stuff which looks more like a heavy-wall fire-pumper draw-line, to me. I'm not sure, but I think that the light-wall wire-frame stuff was not even available back then? Heavy-wall cloth-and-rubber hose would have been an off-the-shelf item for the vehicle developers. I would expect (hope) that the CH folks would supply something like that "woven-cover" air-intake hose that came with some of those earlier Tiger I kits? But we shall see! Bob

I can hear it now...."Kommander! This damn thing leaks and now I have to take a leak!"

i think its something that the germans were working on for their planned invasion on of the UK in Sept of 1940

Absolutely! Operation Sea Lion - Hitler's planned-for invasion of England. U-panzers and all

Correct me if I'm wrong, but unlike a lot of "paper panzers" that get modelled nowadays, these things did actually see some use - after "Seelowe" was canned, they were used to cross the Bug in "Barbarossa"...

Cool looking but nothing I would get into. Might make an interesting dio though. Hey Bob, really, diver Dan, you're aging yourself bud, wonder if the mermaid is still around?
