The “Mermite” food container was introduced into military service in the early 1950s and remained in use until the 1990s. It was widely utilized by the U.S. military to transport hot or cold meals to troops in the field, particularly during the Cold War. The Australian Army also adopted the container, frequently mounting it on their armored fighting vehicles (AFVs) during the Vietnam War. The “Mermite” container was commonly seen on various AFVs used by the U.S., Australia, and their allies, during the Cold War era.
