Mikeresin 1/72 Tiger Tracks Review

A review of Mikeresin 3D printed tracks for 1/72 Tiger I

Mikeresin's reference MKRSN0016 is a set of mirrored, 3D printed, 1/72 Tiger I track set, including the sprocket wheels.

They come in a rigid cardboard box measuring 15 * 9.5 cm and 4 cm high, with a large top and front label which serves also as (reusable) seal.

Inside, wrapped in bubble wrap for extra protection, are three zip bags, a roll of 0.2 mm wire and a small instruction sheet.

The track links come in separate bags for the left and right sides conveniently marked.

Each side is made up of two trays with 60 track links in each, printed without any defects or banding . The detail is very good and crisp.

Separating the track links from the base is very easy as you just have to snap them to break the supports without leaving any trace on the part. In less than a minute they are all loose and ready to assemble. In fact, despite the good protection, some of the links arrived detached from the base. They were not broken nor damaged, simply detached. Thanks to the zip bag they remain with the rest of the set.

The sprocket wheels however come in a 3D printed box to protect them, and the supports are thicker so they have to be cut with a sharp blade until they are completely free. The centre supports are thicker, and although this needs to be done carefully, it's not a major problem. The wheels come in two halves with a guide so that the teeth  are easily aligned. They fit perfectly.

It also comes with a shaft to fit into the model, drilling a 2 mm hole.  This allows to

The assembly of the tracks has no more complication than the time needed to insert the pins on all track links. Although the instructions indicate to use a 0.5 cm pin, a longer one of 0.8 cm goes all the way through and fits better.  The pins fit without issues, there are no obstructed holes. It is tight enough to manipulate them without the pins falling off, but it is better to seal them with a tiny drop of glue at the end.

Once assembled, they remain perfectly workable and, as you would expect, the track fits smoothly into the sprocket.

Depending on the model and preference, the number of links to be used will vary. In any case the box contains 120 links per side, more than enough for the whole track and spares.

Conclusion

A convenient replacement for 1/72 Tiger tracks, suitable for any kit as the sprockets are included. The printing quality is excellent, they are easily released from the tray and assemble is effortless and straightforward.
