Eureka XXL is known for their excellent metal cable sets, but they also have an interesting range of resin products. Their latest additions are these three 1/35 equipment sets for the German StuG III Ausf. G.
It is not uncommon to see photos of StuG III's with boxes, blankets and assorted equipment piled up in the back, and these sets from Eureka XXL represent three of such equipment sets.
The review is for all three references together as, although they are different, their features are similar so choosing one or the other will depend on the base kit on which it will be used and personal preferences.
The sets are:
- ER-3573 Stowage set #1 for Mini Art, Dragon Das Werk/Takom. or RFM.
- ER-3576 Stowage set #2 for RFM and others.
- ER-3577 Stowage set #3 for Mini Art and others.
All include basically the same elements, although varying in shape:
- A large piece of resin for the rear engine deck with a multitude of equipment.
- Two Jerrycans, for water and fuel.
- Two towing cables and their corresponding eyelets in resin.
- Other minor accessories.
The quality of the resin is perfect, without any bubbles or flaws, and completely smooth.
The detailing is equally excellent with delicate texturing on the wooden parts, rope handles, marks on the wheels or rivets on the helmets.
They come with casting blocks that need to be removed, all on the underside where any mark will be hidden after installing the parts.
All sets come with two 20 litre classic German Jerrycans. Again the quality is excellent, with the corresponding markings on the left side, the spigot and centre line.
Additionally, each set includes three or four minor accessories, such as folded and tied blankets. The instructions suggest where to put them, but in reality you can put them anywhere you like.
In set 3573 there is a large blanket spread which, because of its shape, can only be placed on the casemate roof partly over the mantlet.
Finally, all sets include a set of cables for these vehicles. The cables are made of braided copper with a very realistic effect, and are cut to the right length. The cut is clean so that the ends are perfectly closed. It is very easy to bend the wires and get a realistic shape. Also included are the resin eyelets, the ends of which are hollow so that the wire can be inserted. The fit is really good, although you have to be careful not to bend any wires when inserting them.
ER-3576 has a large tarpaulin covering the boxes, and includes a thread for the securing rope.
Set ER-3577
Conclusion
Three great sets to add interest to a Stug III Ausf. G kit quickly and easily. By choosing the colours of the different elements you can bring a lot of liveliness and originality to the model.
The quality of the sculpting and resin are excellent, and it also comes with a set of metal cables. Highly recommended.
