HobbyBoss has dipped their toes into the 1/48th scale armoured vehicle market. In this case it is a Panther A. The hull of the vehicle already has the suspension arms fitted in a neutral position, with the wheels set up as you would expect like it’s larger cousins. The track links have been provided in a link and length format, which I believe is a good compromise for the modellers who either don’t like individual links or don’t like vinyl rubber. There are a good number of ejector pins marks on the inner faces of the tracks links, which will ideally need to be addressed. External details appear to have been well catered to, and should meet the requirements of most modellers. The shackle loops concern me a little, as they appear to be a little long in my opinion. I also do not like that the bow machine gun location has its cover moulded closed. The turret detail is again good, but hatches are moulded closed. The panels of the turret appear to have a slight surface detail, but I do not know if this will show once painted. Being made from rolled steel, I don’t know how much of this detail would shown in this scale. As such, I believe that this release from HobbyBoss has generally good detail but I do not like the fact that the hatches are moulded closed and that there is so much work to tackle on the track links as regards to ejector pin marks.
