German Infantryman #1, 1941

Assault Models recently added two new miniatures to their catalogue, both designed using 3D scanning technology. This review covers the 1/35 scale figure of an early war German soldier: German Infantryman, 1941 (35029).

Review:

German Infantryman, 1941 (35029) figure kit is packed in a nicely designed plastic box with an image showing the assembled figure. Opening the box reveals a zip-lock bag containing resin pieces.

The kit consists of 10 pieces cast in grey resin:

- head,

- body (torso and legs),

- left arm,

- right arm,

- weapon with both hands,

- equipment pieces (5x).

One of the parts broke off of its carrier block, but I found the piece did not sustain any damage in transport.

The parts are cast well. I found seam lines going along the legs and on the helmet, as well as bits of thin flash residue, which need to be carefully cleaned not to damage any details in the process. I would suggest a sharp blade and some fine grit sandpaper for the job. The details on the pieces are sharp and well-defined, superbly delivered in resin.

The carrier blocks are very easy to remove and after cleaning the pieces, the figure is ready for assembly. The fit of the parts is absolutely perfect, and I didn’t have to use any putty during the build. I started by attaching the equipment pieces first, followed by securing the arms to the body. Fixing the hands with the weapon to the arms presented no issues… the hands fit well into the sleeve openings and the rifle sits realistically on the figure shoulder. I finished the assembly by attaching the head, the cheek resting on the rifle buttstock.

The assembled figure looks really good. It depicts a German infantryman from WW2 era wearing the early garb and gear, in the standing rifle shooting position. The details on the uniform and equipment are well defined and, as far as I can tell, authentic to the 1941 period. The anatomy of the figure is very realistic (no wonder, as it is actually a miniature 3D copy of the real person) and I like the nicely delivered shooting posture with both hands gripping the weapon firmly, the buttstock resting on the right shoulder and the tilt of the head looking down the barrel of the weapon.

Conclusion:

German Infantryman, 1941 (35029) from Assault Models is a really nice figure kit. As with all the latest offerings from the company, this too has been developed using 3D scanning technology and delivered as a resin miniature. Although there are some casting imperfections to address, the figure really is a gem; full of details and easy to assemble, it provides a very realistic representation of an early war German soldier.

Highly recommended.

A big thank you to Pavel from Assault Models for this review sample.
