The set can be built to represent a sailor from "either side of the conflict".
The first option shows a Republican sailor with the characteristic raised clenched fist. The second arm allows him to be posed giving a military salute — and paired with the appropriate ship name, he can represent a sailor of the Nationalist fleet.
The set includes "two ship-name options" for the sailor's cap:
- "LEPANTO" — Republican Navy
- "BALEARES" — Nationalist Navy
And these two names were not chosen by accident. "Lepanto" and "Baleares" would eventually meet on opposing sides at the **Battle of Cape Palos in March 1938**, where *Baleares* was sunk following a Republican torpedo attack.

This new sailor has left normal naval duty behind and is now fighting on land. He still wears his characteristic naval uniform, but has been equipped for frontline service with a Mauser rifle, fixed bayonet, ammunition equipment and alpargatas.
The inspiration comes from the sailors and naval personnel who found themselves fighting as infantry during the Spanish Civil War.
