Within Spalah’s extensive range of figures, their reference SP25135 is a set of the Ukrainian Assault Group. It comprises four 3D-printed figures of modern Ukrainian soldiers.
They come in a compact, rigid cardboard box, protected by foam padding on both the top and bottom.
A small painting guide is included for each figure, featuring two images and the corresponding Tamiya and Ammo colours.
Each figure is encased in a 3D-printed cage for extra protection. Inside the cage, the figure keeps a large number of printing supports.
Removing the supporting trees is fairly straightforward; just take care with those attached to more delicate parts such as the cap visor or straps – other than that they come away leaving almost no trace, and any small residue, being on the underside, is usually not visible.
Only one of the figures comes in two parts, with the hands and gun separate from the rest of the body. The fit is quite good; I only need a tiny bit of putty on the wrist to fill a small gap. The rest of figures are all in one piece.
The quality of the figures is excellent, both in terms of design and printing. They appear to have been 3D-scanned from real models, as the proportions, pose and details are impeccable. The faces, the folds in the uniforms – everything is completely realistic. Another sign of quality is that all the figures stand in balance, indicating that the weight is well distributed, just like a real person.
As for the printing, there are no visible flaws or banding. Once removed from the printing supports and the two parts of one of the figures have been glued together, they are ready for painting.
Conclusion
A high-quality set of figures with realistic poses and excellent 3D printing. Easy to remove from the printing supports, they are practically assembled and ready to paint.
