King Tiger Operation Goodwood

On July 18, 1944, amidst the smoke of Operation Goodwood, a Sherman tank commanded by British Lieutenant Gorman unexpectedly encountered King Tiger No. 122 of the German 503rd Heavy Panzer Battalion. Faced with a massive disparity in firepower and a sudden gun malfunction, Gorman resolutely ordered a full-speed ramming maneuver, executing a legendary "armored brawl". In the ensuing chaos, King Tiger 122 caught fire after being struck by a stray shell and was ultimately finished off by a Firefly tank that Gorman had commandeered. This legendary engagement—combining a collision, tank abandonment, and a dramatic escape—remains an eternal classic of the Normandy battlefield.
