In late 1943, Soviet engineers created and launched the IS-2 heavy tank, developed based on the experience of using heavy tanks in the early years of the war. The new tank was equipped with a powerful 122mm gun, good armor, and maneuverability. Throughout its production run, the tank was constantly modernized. Vehicles produced between December 1944 and February 1945 received a DShK anti-aircraft machine gun and a smoke grenade launcher on the rear. In the battles of 1944-1945, the IS-2 was successfully used against enemy heavy tanks, during the assault on cities and fortified positions.
