1⁄1Suffolk Railroad Museum
Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad MuseumThe Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum in Suffolk, Virginia, is a treat for railway historians and modelers, alike.
Built in 1885 for the Seaboard and Roanoke Railroad, this Queen Anne style station has remained almost unchanged. A walnut paneled spiral staircase allows access to the tower.
- Many original features were saved and restored such as the doors, windows, coffered ceiling, fireplace and porch.
The museum owns a bay window caboose. Guests can tour the interior which was refurbished by Eagle Scouts.
Suffolk City Model (1907)As impressive as the station is, perhaps the the pièce de résistance is the exceptional HO model of 1907 Suffolk City. Built by the Tidewater Division of the National Model Railroad Association, it features two first-place National Competition scratchbuilt model buildings. One building is the fascinating Suffolk tourist attraction "Riddick’s Folly", an early 19th Century mansion.
The Suffolk Seaboard Station Railroad Museum is owned and operated by the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society. http://www.suffolktrainstation.org
