Contest Overview
KitMaker Network, Armorama, and SAM Publications are happy to announce the return of the Model of the Month contest on Armorama. Each month one lucky winner will be selected from photo entries of recent Armor/AFV models that have been submitted for judging. The winner will receive a ‘SAM Publications Hobby-Box’ containing a variety of tools and accessories from Albion Alloys, Ultimate Modelling Products, Deluxe Materials, Model Craft and Swann Morton. In addition the monthly winner would be able to choose a copy of Scale Aviation Modeller International (SAMI), Scale Military Modeller International (SMMI) or Model Aircraft magazines, and have the opportunity to have their work published in SMMI. In addition to these prizes, the entrants photos may be selected for publication on Armorama as well.
How to Enter
Entering the contest is easy. Just follow the instructions below and you will be eligible to win.

What kind of model photos can you enter?
  • ANY model of a military vehicle.
  • ANY manufacturer.
  • ANY scale.
What kind of model photos can you NOT enter?
  • Photos that include figures.
  • Dioramas or vignettes. See photo taking requirements below for more info.
  • Models that you did not build personally.
Are there other requirements for the subject model?
The model should be a recent one that you have completed in the past few months. This rule is based on an honor system and we hope everyone will comply with it. More than one entry per user is permitted provided the models completed comply with this criteria. Please do not 'repeat' submit a model to the contest more than once.

Are there any special photo taking requirements?
The photos should be of a single tank, AFV or soft-skin model against a plain background. Simple bases are allowed, but please do NOT enter models with figures and diorama elements, etc. A simple base may be a wood base, or a base with limited ground elements (ie: grass, concrete, road material, etc.).

To confirm you are the person taking the photos, one of your photos should include (in the photo itself) a piece of paper with the following info:
  1. The contest name: Armorama Model of the Month
  2. Your full name.
  3. The date the photo was taken.

How do I send you my photos?
Once you take your photos of your Armor/AFV model you can submit them via email to us. Send from 10-15 photos of your entry to this email address: [email protected]

How large or small should the photo files be?
Photos should be easy to send via email so sending huge RAW digital photos is not advisable. However keep in mind if your model wins, you will need to provide SAM Publications with high quality digital images in order to see them published so save those original full sized images for that scenario. Digital photos should be a minimum of 1280 x 700 pixels (width/height).

What info do you need in the email?
  1. Your full name.
  2. Your KitMaker Network username.
  3. The title/name of your model.
Winners & Prizes
How is the winner selected?
SAM Publications will be judging the photos and selecting a winning entry each month.

When is the winner selected?
In order to assure that they will have a reasonable amount of time to judge all the entries we will be working on a 1 month cycle of entries and judging. Once the contest closes at the end of the month we will be posting up a feature showing all the entrants and a representative photos from their entry photos. Then there will be a 1 month judging period and the winner for the contest that ended 1 month prior will be announced. Obviously this means that if you enter your model on January 1st, you will have to wait till March 1st until you hear who has won that contest.

Who is sending the prizes?
SAM Publications will contact the winner to determine which magazine they prefer, their postal address and whether or not additional photos will be needed for publication in one of the magazines. SAM Publications will be sending all prize packages from their offices directly to the winner.

I don't know what got me started on Armor. I must have seen a Monogram tank kit one day and said "Mom...
