Chevrolet 1942 1.5 Ton 4 x 2

Photographed at the Buckfastleigh Rally of the Devon Branch of the M.V.T. (Military Vehicle Trust) this summer, this vehicle raised a lot of eyebrows. Rarely seen outside its native Australia this is Chevrolet Australia's 1942 1.5/2.5 Ton truck. Privately owned, the vehicle was the last from a group of Australian & New Zealand enthusiasts who shipped their vehicles to Turkey and finished their tour in Normandy as part of the 65th anniversary of the landings.

This particular vehicle, which was built in 1942, is the METAL-bodied version (rather than the more commonly seen ‘Strake’ body version. The Owner of the vehicle, David Mottram, showed me the user-manual, which demonstrates very clearly, that both versions existed. The vehicle has also gained a fair amount of media exposure, having featured in various movies and TV series’. It’s latest ‘outing’ has been in the New series, Pacific War which will do for the Pacific theater what the producers did for the Normandy Campaign in Band of Brothers

There’s every chance that the vehicle will be staying in the U.K. as the owner intends to sell it before returning to Australia.

My thanks to David for the time he spent explaining this very unusual vehicle!
