Vinnie, i have seen early StuG's with solid gun caps.......they look like a piece of tube that has a slightly larger diameter than the gun barrel and have a retaining strap. The cloth covers were used later on, no doubt to save on the material forthe solid covers.

Thanks Vinnie
I've just completed a Stug III A using an Aber set 35 021 for the Ausf B,C and D, Complicated,Yes!!
but worth it
The instructions are clearer on this set for the fitting of parts behind the gun mantlet.
The smoke rack is complex,I'm not 100% sure this is the right one for an Ausf B ,as my copy of Achtung Panzer#5 shows this type fitted to the Ausf C onwards? where as the B had the same earlier type as the A?
(please correct me if you know different!!)
It's nice to see the gun cap included ,with retaining strap, the real ones were ,I belive made of leather
Cheers
Andy
