Hi all,

A few weeks ago I bought the Border Models Leopard 2A5/A6.

Now my goal would be to build it as a dutch Leopard 2A6. For this Build I Will be using what I can from the Legend NL conversion set intended for the Tamiya Leopard 2 as well as a new metal barrel from Voyager and some smaller details from Leopard Club.

As for reference Material I do find it hard to find some decent detailed pictures from a Dutch Leopard 2A6 so if you have any links, that would be very helpfull.

Also if you have any suggestions for the build, these would be more than welkome.

Kind regards,
Marc

Marc, sorry I don't have any Dutch Leopard links. I just wanted to tell you that you have selected a great Leo for your project. My favorite kit of 2020 !
Have fun and post some pictures !

might be an option to check the Leopard 2 at the Military Museum in Soesterberg if you have the chance, you can takes pictures from almost all angles.

also a youtube clip of this leopard, maybe of use?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHGoLW6cXB0&list=PLRTSHCEyfsgaAkofMXu_gkhz2bqYIWSyP&index=18&t=0s&ab_channel=PanzerPicture

and this book from Tankograd has excellent photos. it is not cheap but one of the best books you will find:
http://www.tankograd.com/cms/website.php?id=/en/Kampfpanzer-LEOPARD-2b.htm

also a suggestion: should you have any problems with the Legend update set then you can find most parts you need for the Dutch version also in the Revell Leopard 2A4 kit. (not very expensive and you can still make many versions of other countries without the specific parts for the dutch version)

good luck with you project, hope you can keep us informed about the progress...

Thanks for the tips.

@Michel; visiting the museum in Soesterberg is a good idea. I didn’t know they had a Leo 2a6 there.
About the tankograd book, I saw on some sample pages it has de NL Leo 2a5 in there. Do you know if also the 2a6 is in the book ?

@Dan; thanks for the advies. That article was actually the reason to buy the Border Models instead of using the Tamiya kit as a basis ;-).

the chapter "Leopard 2A6 NL" starts at page 44, ends at page 50, and it has a lot of very good pictures. The previous chapter about the A5NL might also be of use. And in case you feel like making something different; page 54 is dedicaded to the "Orange Leo"!?

i do recommend this particular book, one of the best i ever purchased.

Hi Marc,

the legend conversion is not simple to build due to the etched brass smoke grenade guards. PSM also does these nowadays ready to fix, created from 3D and the resin cast, at the moment only in the Leopard 2A6 FIN conversion that is basically a Leopard 2A6.

https://www.perfect-scale.de/de/leopard-2-a6-fi.html

There might be a chance for the 2A6NL conversion in that stile too...

Maybe it is woth to wait or to contact Gerold.

Hi Andreas,

Thanks for the tip on the Finish conversion. I didn’t know the Finish had the same style of the smoke granade setup.
Tbh I am not too impressed about the Legend resin parts and am glad most parts also come with the Border kit.

With PSM I have some really good experience both on their service as well as their kits. I am currently building their conversion for the Bergpanzer 2 to convert it into a Dutch version incl interior ;-)

Hi Marc.

PM sent. Regarding the Finnish Leopard 2A6, these ARE ex dutch vehicles and a couple of parts, including the machine guns and the smoke grenade launchers, remained. Others, like the rack for the wetches at the rear, disappeared.

The Finnish als use 16 ex dutch Genietanks and Bergingstanks on which also nearly all dutch modifications as well as the smoke dischargers and machine gun remained.

Andreas
