Hi all,

Some small progress, as mentioned previously I have recoloured the groundwork, also darkened down the retaining wall.

The water is slow progress as it recommends pours of no more than 3mm at a time, and a minimum of 24hrs drying time between each pour, but I have now got it level with the surface of the ford (see images below).

So the next pour is going to be the critical one as it will flow across the ford, so a lot of movement and colour needs adding...a bit daunting, .

One advantage of my aforementioned close miss with the water pouring was that I was able to add the fish in, just for angling Erwin, .

Cheers, ,

What a nice gesture, but I doubt if the fish would still be there if a armoured vehicle just rumbled by...

Watch this video. The whole thing is worth watching but 26 minutes in or so is the pertinent to your diorama part.

Hi Erwin,

Glad you liked it, .

As for the fish, he's a wily ol' thing and is staying out of sight under the bridge rather than risk being seen and caught for supper, .

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the clip, an amazing build, don't think I'd have the patience to build something on that scale, a true work of art.

Some good ideas though, thanks again, .

Cheers, .

Hi all,

Decided to lay down the first thin coat of water (see images below), I'm thinking 3 or 4 thin layers, the water running over the ford is only likely to be 4" or 5" at the most.

I have added the first layer of dirty wash, each subsequent layer will get a similar treatment so as to build up the density, with the bridge side being clearer than the weir side as fresh water washes away the disturbed water.

Cheers, ,

Proceeding nicely. So many aspects involved with that spot of water. Hard to keep track. Beginning with the scene as it would look without vehicles. That is hard enough. Then we add the disturbance from the carriers. Man o man.

Hi Jerry,

Thank you, and you're right about the various aspects, as for the disturbance, well I'm disturbed just trying to work out some of the dynamics, .

Hi all,

A few pictures below of today's progress, which includes a second thin layer of water over the cobbles and the start of the watery cascade...which definitely needs a lot more work.

Absolutely SUPER!
I have to admit I was wanting to see more water coming across those stones. Great!

Yeeeessssss. This is one of the coolest dios I have ever had the pleasure of watching come together. Very original idea to begin with and now expertly brought towards fruition.
This is exciting.

Somewhere I have a very similar photo of a horse and buggy making a similar crossing over the stones and thru the water at the Shaker Village Driving Course located just south of Lexington, Kentucky.

Trying now to find it!

Dripping with anticipation – Brilliant with a capital F. If one carrier’s just crossed the stream presumably you’ll have to make some waves/ripples in the final water layers…yikes? I’m trying to think if it would be possible to make drips & splashes flying off the carrier’s tracks - maybe blast blobs of PVA with a powerful hair-drier in a kinda curving motion across a piece of glass, peel & attach when dry?

Love the progress you make... That fish must be deaf and blind!!!
On the serious side, do add the carrier in time! the tracks, wheels ,and possibly, rear of the vehicle must be submersed!!!!

Hi Michael,

Thank you for the positive feedback, it's much appreciated, .

As to the depth of water, it will be a little deeper, but I need to build up the depth of the cascade as this acts as a dam to the water flowing across the cobbles.

But I imagine it would only ever be deeper during floodwater times, and then the water would be the same depth each side of the ford and the cascade wouldn't work...least that's how I imagine it would be...but I'm no expert in these things, .

Cheers, .

Hi Tim,

Thank you for your kind words and continued support, and your suggested solutions to some of the more complex elements, especially as I admire your approach to more challenging facets of a build, .

You are absolutely right about waves, and suchlike, it is a bit daunting...so a lot of looking at images and some experimentation going on, .

Hi Cheyenne,

Thank you for the kind feedback, .

As to changing the water, I'll try not to, especially as I'm aware that I have a tendency to not know when to stop, ...and then go and overcook things, .

Cheers, ,
