As an aside, I have been considering getting a 'wet palette' for my acrylics. A friend suggested 'Redgrass' but I can't find a source in the UK. I could buy from Europe, but with the current crisis I'm trying to source within the UK if possible, .

I just started using a wet palette but I didn’t buy I made my own. Take any airtight container, fold paper towel over a few times (about 4-5 layers) until you get a spongey surface. Wet this spongy paper towel until it is fairly damp but not soaked. Then place parchment paper on top of this wet “sponge”. When done painting seal it up and paints can stay fluid for around a week this way. When switching projects or if the parchments gets too dirty/full of paint, pull it out and toss it and put a new piece down. Recharge and replace the spongey paper towel layer as required

Nah, you won't get tips on the snow from me.... Again! You know what I used, and the result.

For the wet palette, which I once more recommend, I use one from MOB Miniatures. I don't know a source in the UK, though. They are available on AliExpress too.

Indeed I do know and, having checked their site, they seem to have a couple of special offers on, so might well go with you and Ivan on this one, .

Would you say that the use of a wet palette is invaluable when painting figures in acrylics?

No, unfortunately I have not used it. I have a kit somewhere, boxed up, waiting for my office/craft room to be completed. I recall when I first got it, I compared the "flake" with the railroad modeling product and it was much finer and "scale". The color also resembled snow much better. Like it had the translucency, if you will.

As mentioned above to Eric, I think I'm going to give it a try as they seem to have a few special offers on, the only thing I need to decide is whether I go with the set that includes 'whitewash' for vehicles, or the one without, .

Most certainly. Today I still use some paint I put on there last weekend. Mind that the paint tends to shift after some hours, but it can be stirred and used. Just don't be surprised.

Thanks for the feedback on a DIY wet palette, , I'm going to give it, or something similar a try, . At the very least it'll help convince me, or not, as to whether it's a benefit to my painting capabilities, or lack thereof, .

Hi all,

Pretty much completed the basic Churchill (see images below).







For me it was relatively quick, approx. 10hrs. There are still tools and some of the more fragile bits, lights and antennae mount to be added but, when I get round to adding them, they'll be done in an hour...he says, .

The turret was a bit of a mare, the manlet leaves a noticeable gap between the remainder of the turret wall and roof that needs filling/blending. And I detest two part plastic gun barrels, especially small fiddly ones, I always struggle to hide the seam (see image below), .



Tomorrow I'm hoping to add some bits-and-bobs to customise it, spare tracks, etc, make some stowage.

As an aside, with all that lovely mudguard area does anyone know if they took a battering in use and should show lots of dents and dings, . In my mind it's calling out for such damage, e.g. maybe where the crew have walked on it, or was it robust enough to resist minor misuse?

Hi all,

Today I have added some appliqué armour to the Churchill in the form of spare track links, and also managed to give it a basic coat of paint (see images below).









Noticed a few paint blotches and dust particles that will need getting rid of, .

Once the paint has dried and I've cleaned up the errors mentioned above I'll give it a coat of varnish and then start to build up the colours before weathering the whole.

Hi all,

I have started on the weathering (see images below), but have decided to paint it as if it was going to be a 'clement' weather tank before I hide most of it with 'winter' camouflage.











Need to do some dry brushing and washes next to pick out the detail.

Not sure how y’all view The Crown TV show but the Dr (Matt Smith) suggests it’s not an easy language to pick up and needing the subtitles I agree. Can’t say I am much better with the Queen’s English either. I am sure y’all feel the same about us across the pond in the colonies.

Don't get me started on Dr Who, ...looking back Matt Smith was good compared to the politically correct cr@p that this latest incarnation is churning out, .

As for language, I think it was George Bernard Shaw who said...The United States and Great Britain are two countries separated by the same language...so no issues here with my colonial cousins, .

The holes on the rear deck, they're for an assortment of pioneer tools, e.g. spades and such like.

Hi all,

Spent a few hours this morning starting to add some colour variation to the top deck/track guards, the turret hasn't yet been touched and is there to give a 'before and after' comparison (see image below).



I'm aiming to get a not dissimilar finish to my earlier Cromwell (see image below) before I apply the winter camouflage.



It's time consuming, but I think necessary as I intend the 'whitewash' will be well worn, so a lot of the finish beneath will be visible.

Great job G, those green variations are excellent so I hope most of the whitewash will have washed off, way too good to hide
