Thanks for the compliment! Your probably right about the gun barrel not charring, but one small thing the inside off the barrel was painted silver but I guess it wasent very clear in that shot.

An update with the E100. I was going to do a 4 colour cam with all 4 colours being equal, however, I decided to try a slightly different take on an ambush pattern but still using the 4 colours.

I have one green colour to add to the ambush pattern, then it will be detail painting, adding some minor stowage/kit and weathering.

Here is a picture of the major parts of the Tamiya Ford GPA Jeep dry-fitted together. I still have to touch up paint (especially the hull) and work on the cockpit, but I really think I can get this one done before the end of the year, if not sooner.

Optimist! If you need incentive to finish, I'll send Guido and Hammer around to 'persuade' you....

Looks fantastic John. I really like your take on the camo. Best part about 'Paper Panzers' , you can do what you want to , within reason.

Thanks Peter and Ezra. The E100 is coming along very nicely now, I have applied the basic decals and now just needs a final very light weathering and some external stowage added along with 2 crew figures to give it some scale and that will be me done I think.
I quite enjoyed trying to achieve a different looking cam on it, as I get bored doing the same old schemes all the time, and as its a paper panzer, you do have a little artistic measure to play with like you mentioned. I actually think if the war had gone on for a longer period, the German camo schemes would of become a lot more simplified, along the lines of only one or 2 base colour which I did with the NATO green and black.

The kit actually comes together really well and there no issues with any of to be fair, and the addition of the voyager PE set added some of the finer detail which gives it more of a realistic feel.

The Chally in the background is now on the final leg. I put the NATO black on her last night, and the decals, so now its just detail painting and again, a very light weathering/dusting, and that will be my old C/S 42 done.

Proof I can actually try and finish a model!! My refurbishment is going along quite nicely with this Jordanian M47 of 1967. Tracks are Friul (and ready to mount only after all the weathering). Click on photos to enlarge.

You have done some nice work there John on the 47, will there be a heavy or light weathering ? what colours did you use on the tracks to get that finish ? I have yet to buy Friul tracks as I am to tight , but they do look good with how they naturally sag ( and the wife would kill me if I did LOL )....

Thanx for the compliment...

On the weathering front: I have to blend NEW paint/weathering against OLD paint/weathering. You can see the difference in the hues. I'll try and match the hues of natural aging/wear in a desert environment. My real life desert experiences indicate more of a pin wash approach to weathering. There won't be that much chipping, or sponging, to show a whole lot of rust, but to show worn/rubbed/faded areas of paint, along with the typical spillage, grimy areas, caused by petrol products.

Colors? dark brown, light brown (white mixed in), tans of all sorts of hues and makers, black and brown washes, dark and tan washes, then dark and tan pigments.

On the tracks: at least 6 different colors are being used, all enamels (best medium on metal tracks is my experience). Then a blend of at least 4 different pigments secured with extra thin cement (not pigment fixer). Then I take one of the roadwheels (bogies) and rub it up and down the inside of the track to create the travel, and width, of the roadwheel to indicate the evidence of the natural roadwheel wear. Since I'm pretty much done with the tracks as far as painting/pigment application goes, I'll then seal the whole track with Testors Dull Coat ("sealing" the paint and giving an even look/sheen to the tracks, and protects the paint too). Once mounted to the tank, I'll take a #2 graphite over the cleat feature of the track that is worn against contact with the surface. By the way, in this one particular case, there be no track sag represented...they are 'live'.

There are some deals on Ebay for Friul...some I've purchased for $20 or less.

Markings will most likely represent the 12th Armored Regiment of the 40th Armored Brigade, in the West Bank, 1967's Six day War.

So there I was, sitting down happily doing some detail painting on the very very nearly finished Chally 1, thinking that it is all looking pretty good ...

Then, you know when you get the feeling you've noticed something not quite right ... but can't put your finger on it ... Then BAM !!!!

I realized to my shame and horror... I have put the bloody tow ropes on upside down....on both sides..... With superglue, and painted them .. .. Arghhhhhhhhhhh

Now's where's my sharpest blade..

Didn't they use the anti-Gravity types back then???

I recently put the optic unit for my M981, for the 20/20 build, on backwards.... Fortunately I had to add styrene spacers to the old Verlinden kit that is the base for the conversion, so it was easy to slice through, trim the styrene off the resin and replace. No more late night "I'll just quickly put these together..." sessions...

Good luck on removing them without too much damage.

So, the Chally recovery cables eventually were removed, admittedly after a lot of tears, carefully chosen swearing and general profanity !!
Thankfully, there was only some paint which needed touching up after, and this will be hidden after a light dust weathering at the end.

The E100 lurking in the background is also pretty much done now, and will post a few pics here later, but majority will go in campaign gallery.

Chally now needs some turret basket covers adding, some detail painting, and the thermal sleeve on the barrel requires painting, then the finished item will be posted here.

I have finished painting my Slovak National Uprising LT-38. I am still trying to figure out how to get the radio that Dragon supplies into what little space is available in the hull.

I had started out planning to build a Bulgarian tank but was too far along with the build to incorporate the changes I had to make to match the pictures that Angel provided of the parade in Sofia in 1944. I ripped the etched fenders off the kit and built it as the Slovak one. I took the fenders and added them to a new kit and built it as a Bulgarian Praga.

The rear of the tank has some interesting features, it is built like the ones on the Marder, with the straps to hold the tow cable and a cover to give access to the engine heater.

So there is my impression of a Bulgarian "Praga" that fought with the Soviets at the end of WWII. Thanks again for the reference Angel. Now onto something Canadian that I hope will not be my entry into unfinished business 2021!

Both are really good looking, Cam! Smashing job!

I shot the first coats of paint on my M151, but the colours came out all wrong. And I need to paint 3 Rangers and 2 Airborne figures...

Hi all, and as promised, The E100 is now done and I am pretty happy with the results. I will post 3 pics here, and alot more in the campaign gallery.

I left it fairly intact, with just some general wear and tear weathering. added some extra external bins & jerry can holders for the turret and some old Panther side skirts to add a field repair mod.

Chally 1 will be hopefully finished over the next few days.

Nice work guys.

Cam, the twins look fantastic. Great job especially in the removal and repurpose of the fenders.

Phil, love the dark and moody result on the E100. The Chally is looking great too.

And here is an almost finished Chally 1 callsign 42, my old wagon from Germany in the late 80's.

It has turned out very nice after the horrific cock up with the satin black paint lol ....

I will be giving her a very gentle weathering of light dust only, and have it look like its just going out on a local road move.
