Hi Guys,
I recently picked up the Academy F-4J Red devils kit in 1/72nd and was wondering what changes are required to to Back date it to an F-4B?
I'd like to represent the aircraft of Commander Louis Page and Lieutenant John Smith- USS Midway.

Any comments please.

Cheers

Chris

Probably quite a lot, but I don't think it would be impossible at 1/72. Given it some thought myself. The Italeri/Esci F-4 (a multi variant kit) has a lot of the necessary parts already in the box.
Off the top of my head you'd need early style short jet exhausts, AIM-9B's, Martin Baker Mk.V seats, undernose IRST, narrow main gear tyres and thin down the bulge on the upper wing above the wheel wells. Best of luck with it.

We really could do with a modern tool F-4B and C at 1/72. I'm hoping that Airfix will in the near future.

Hi Stephen,
Hey many thanks for the quick reply, I'll give it some more thought otherwise I'll build the kit as is and perhaps look at the Hasegawa F-4b I maybe able to pick one up for a reasonable price.

Glad to help Chris and good luck with it.

I spent so long looking for one of the Hasegawa kits over here I gave up. Probably going to get the 1/48 Academy now.
