It does look like the spinach green of the Imperial Japanese Navy. So would that color fill the bill?

Priceless video that - '37 Pat webbing, and the camouflaged "Pixie" suit, and hob-nailed footwear all round.

I admit to not knowing what Spinach Green is like but I make a lot of 50s/60s models and have found that Revell Enamel 65 with a coat of gloss varnish is just about perfect (and I used to be able to compare it to the real paint until my wife had a purge of the shed and threw out a tin of the real stuff).

I know it's an enamel paint but I would suggest that you give it a go.

"Spinach Green" is the name I've seen to describe Imperial Japanese Navy dark green, used on the upper section of the Mitsubishi Zero plane. I was told Tamiya Xf-11 paint was supposed to be like Deep Bronze Green, and when painting inner wheels it seems to be like spinach green after all.

COOKED spinach yes, raw spinach no. The echelon vehicles at Bovington were plain DBG in the early seventies.

Try Mike Starmer's (MAFVA) Tamiya mix:

"SCC No.224 Deep Bronze Green Tamiya
Deep Bronze Green 224 replaced SCC 15 so DBG 224 is the colour for Korea.
Deep Bronze Green is mixed by 8pts XF5 + 5pts XF62 = Old dark colour. You need a satin varnish over this for the depth of colour. The SCC 15 was mixed with the new lighter colour.
XF61 does not have red in it thus not suitable for DBG 24."

Which coincidentally is the same mix as :

"BS.24 Deep Bronze Green.
This colour was introduced in about 1934 as the new basic colour for all British vehicles. In service it was usually polished to a high gloss and appears in contemporary photographs as near black in many cases. The colour was replaced by Khaki Green No.3 in mid 1939 but can be seen on a number of vehicles used by the BEF either as an overall colour or in some cases left as the disruptive colour.

The colour was not used again until 1946 earliest when the three British services reverted to pre-war colours and even then took 2 or three years to be totally re-established.
Mix: 8pts XF5 + 5pts XF62; you will need to apply a satin varnish over this to achieve the correct appearance. "

I used it on my Tortoise, but it appears lighter in the pic than it really is as I did some light dust over it...

I think that that was meant in in the description. As it happens I have some Tamiya Imperial Japanese Navy Green paint to use up.

I wonder what the original Japanese word is? I suspect it's a generic word like 'greens' (as in leafy vegetables)All of the Oriental greens I've enjoyed are paler than European Spinach. Nicely stir fried with Garlic and ginger, then gently braised with Soy and Yellow Wine (Shaoxing Jiu)...

Incidentally I made a sample of Tamiya AS-21 and it seems close. Or is this false hope?
