Does anyone know if there is a conversion set available for the doors and turret in the photo below for the Tamiya 1/35 M1025?

This type of shield is in Voyager Model set for MTVR (PEA316) and you can find those armored doors in ITALERI kit M998A1

Thanks Alex, greatly appreciated!

The Academy M998 IED kit also has those doors. Will the Academy or Italeri M998 doors fit the Tamiya M1025?

The Italeri and Academy M998 kits only have the front doors so I would have to try to scratch build the back doors.

You are welcome Terence, sorry I don't know if Italeri/Academy doors fit the Tamiya bodywork.

Piotr, great build.

I found a few more photos online with different doors. Some seem to have the same armored doors found in the Tmaiya M1046 kit but some have different window layouts.

The one in the foreground has two windows and the one in the background seems to have the standard armored doors that are in the Tamiya M1046. The first looks to have the ASK armor.

These doors also look close to the doors found in the Tamiya M1046 but have a different window. They have the ASK armor on the lower body.

These doors also look close to the doors found in the Tamiya M1046 but they look like they have extra armor plates. Notice the ASK armor on the lower body.

Here is another one with the same doors as the ones from my original post but this M1025 has the ASK armor added to the lower body.

I started scratch building the specific doors shown in my original post. I still have to add the hinges, door handles and lip to the top of the door edges. The doors will be going on a different Tamiya M1025. This one is just the test bed for fitting the doors. I also still need to add the semi circular gunner protection turret. I have the turret as a PE part and for the front gun shield I will be using the Blast Models resin part.

Got the bolts and handles on the USMC HMMWV doors that I am scratch building. I still need to do the main hinge assembly at the front edges of the doors but that will be done last with some plastic rod.

Looking good! Those armored doors came out really well.

I've always hoped that Tamiya would come out with a new kit, using the basic M1025, but with extras such as the armored doors, gunner's shield and new tyres. Maybe even a M240G machine gun and some USMC crewmen.

Can't wait to see more updates.

Thanks Keigan!

Live Resin makes some really nice M240's.

I also wish Tamiya did more options with their M1025. So many different USMC options out there with the different armor kits. I don't mind scratch building some of the parts but I am not all that good at scratch building especially the more intricate parts so I wish they were available in kit form.

I have been pouring over the Tamiya, Bronco and newer Academy HMMWV versions of the armament carrier. Tamkya, for being a 15 yr old kit holds up very well. While all three miss the mark on the chassis, I would love to see Tamiya do more variants as well. The basic two and four door soft tips would be great to see as would new versions of the ambulances. I wish Bronco had fixed their chassis flaws in between versions and I wish Academy had actually looked at a real M1151 chassis before embarking on theirs. Academy could also give us the M1152 and M1165 without too much trouble, with a corrected chassis of course. There is even an elusive EOD vehicle out there based on the M1151 in use by the Air Force that I've never seen more than a single photo of. All of these would be great to see. I agree Terrence that a clean USMC truck with the MAK would be nice to see. And who would be down for a modern, comp!eye kit of the current GMV in use by out SF all over the world? I don't dream of kits of cold war stuff, but HMMWVs!

Regards,

Eric

By the way Terrence, that build is coming along very well. Your camo looks amazing. Keep it up.

Thanks Eric!

Looking forward to seeing your M1167. I have one planned as well so will use yours as a guide.

The HMWWV shown above with the scratch built doors was only used as a test bet to fit the doors. I still need to put a filter on the paint and also some weathering.

Besides the ones shown below, I have a few more I am doing including an M998, another M1114, a couple M1151's and the before mentioned M1167.

Yes, the USMC HMMWV's with MAK, the SF M1113 GMV and older DUMVEE out of the box would have been great.

I am converting one of my Tamiya M1025's into an M1113 GMV with the Samofalov 3D printed parts, Live Resin SAG turret and weapons. Here is where I am at the moment. The roof and turret are only dry fitted for test fitting.

I am also doing another Tamiya M1025 with the Blast Model weapons and ASK armor sets. Roof and doors are only dry fitted for now. This is the one shown above with the scratch built doors.

Here is the Tamiya M1046 also with the Blast Model ASK armor set. Roof and doors are only dry fitted for now.

Lastly, I also started a Bronco M1114 Up-Armored. This one and the M1113 GMV aren't painted yet as my airbrush crapped out a couple months ago and I still haven't gotten it to work. Looking for a new one but finds are tight at the moment. I hear the Paasche H1 is pretty decent and affordable so will look into that one when I can save up for it.

Thanks Eric!

Got the circular roof mounted gunner protection shield done. I cut it out of sheet plastic then rolled it inside a Model Master paint jar and left it overnight. Test fitting it to the weapons ring. The doors are dry fitted as well. This HMMWV is just a test bed to fit the parts. They will eventually go on a different Tamiya M1025.

A very cool idea to roll the styrene sheet inside the paint jar. Did the shape stay round and in optimal geometry after you pulled it out?

I used the jar just to give it enough curve in the plastic. When I took it out of the jar, the sheet plastic kept the curve but not as tight. It is pliable enough though that you can set it on the weapons ring and squeeze to fit and once you glue it on it should hold the correct shape.

Continuing with my HMMWV builds. I am scratch building the spare tire rack used on the M1025 based DUMVEE/GMV.

Not sure if I am placing it on the rear bumper shelf or inside the cargo bed but I think I am leaning towards inside the cargo bed.

Found this photo online showing the gun shield fitted. I think I might add this to mine. Does anyone make the ammo can rack on the top of the roof separately? I have only seen them available in the Legend and Black Dog DUMVEE sets. I already have the Pro Art set but it doesn't include the ammo can rack for the roof. Anyone have one they are willing to trade?

He is talking about the rack for ammunitions boxes on the turret ring.

I don't know separate offer for this element.

Be careful when using the tires from Live Resin. These were not used in early type GMVs based on M998/M1025.

Finished scratch building the spare tire rack.

I also scratch built the 3 bay ammo canister holder for the weapons ring. I didn't cut the holes in the two center ribs because I will be adding the ammo canisters so the holes won't be seen anyway.

I also added the gun shield. Overall view with the spare tire rack, 3 bay ammo canister holder and gun shield.

Terence you might try dipping the jar + plastic in hot water or giving them the hot hair dryer treatment and let them cool overnight. The application of heat might destress the plastic to the point where the shield might retain more of its' curved shape and not un-curl as much in the morning.
