I'll use the Voyager figures for crew but at around $50 Canadian for 2, I wish I could find a cheaper option.

Voyager figures? Never heard of such a thing. I assume you mean Black Dog or Valkyrie?

Ooops. Quite right, I meant Valkyrie.

Hi I've built the Hobby Boss M911 and M747 Trailer, I'm in the process of building an M60A2 for the load. I did my history and they were carried by the tractor and trailer.

Hi Chris. Thanks for that. I had wondered how the USMC moved their M60's around. Another poster confirmed M911 was used for this job. The HB kit is a great build and Ive a Tamiya M60 to build after this ones complete.

This manual shows the standard tie down for tanks. For the chain binders, you can find them at Shapeways by our own Matt Leese (mdlbldrmatt135) at his Down Range Productions Shapeways store.

Link to buy

Accurate Armour out of Scotland also offers a couple different types of chain binders.

Set 1 WW2/Post WW2

Set 2 Cold War

Set 3 Modern

Thanks Gino, very useful info and I will check it out. I did some time in a green suit, I had nothing to do with tank transportation.

Here's a question: One feature of both M911/M747 kits is the moulded-in-place tie down points on the trailer sides

Why oh why do this? Other cargo vehicles, that may or may not use their tie downs every time, get individual fittings. MTVR, M939 etc.

But doesn't a transporters load get tied-down every time?

Thanks again for the pics and info.

I also had an excellent experience buying T-10 spruces from MENG. The customer service is excellent.

I'm not sure I am following you. Do you mean the tie-down loops on the sides of the trailer. If so, they are just extra tie-down points if needed.

Pet peave of mine. The runners that hold model parts are sprues, s-p-r-u-e-s, no c. A spruce is a tree; spruces are multiple spruce trees.

Stupid me. I thought the trailer side d-rings were the principal tie down points. So presumably with the blocks under each end of the tracks/each vehicle wheel, where do those
chain binders hook up? I ordered 2 sets from Shapeways yesterday btw.

Thanks Gino, youre being a great help to me.

NOw I am following. The d-rings on the sides are the primary tie-down points. As you see below, there are square cut-outs in the trailer deck. These are to pass the chains through and connect to the d-rings on the sides. There are also tie-down points on the insides of the frame rails.

Thanks Gino. So if I understand you, the d-rings on the trailer sides should be replaced with ones in the "opened/raised" position as they would be under tension from the chain binders?

I've since found pics of chains passing down into the trailer frame but your advice is really helpful.

They are pictured in my above post w/a link to Accuarate Armour in blue. Scroll down until you see the pic of them at Accurate Armour. You will have to click on "Load More Items" at the bottom a couple of times to see them.

Thanks Gino. I took a look and they look great, as do your pics. Ive gone with the 3d ones for now but am looking for a good source of d-rings to replace the moulded ones on the trailer sides. 2 M747 and 1 M1000, with others to follow.

I feel really dim after whining on about "moulded" tie down rings. The HobbyBoss trailer features the appropriate separate rings and thanks to Gino, I now have the necessary chains.

Just got to work out what to cut and where..........

The M747 trailer is going together well and im really enjoying this build.

I bought my ties and chain from accurate armour as said.
I have 2 chains crossed at the front D shackles and 3 chains at the rear 2 crossed to D shackles and1 chain through tow hook to trailer frame. That seems to be sufficient from my experience. For a road move, if x country I would take chains from the anchor points behind the lights on an M60A2 which is the load I have on mine.

I bought the shapeways chain binders but, having 0 experience with this medium.....HELP!

Can anyone assist with turning these into chain binders? I just gaze at the complex shape and wonder: cut that off, or cut this off.

Are you talking about this set that I showed above?

If so, I have marked the cut points in the below pic with red lines. The binder is in a "T" shape (green lines). It is the tube part with the pointy handle attached. The chains attach to each end of the tube and the hooks go on the opposite ends of the chains.

I guess the binders can be configured in a few ways.

The hooks can attache directly to them.

Or the cahin can connect to them directly.

Used like such...
