A sunny day at last…

Spot the snoozing driver…

As mentioned previously the doors/ roof/chassis will all stay loose until post-paint final assembly along with the handrails etc. but otherwise it’s finally finished after nearly 5 months…

How much of the interior & passenger will be visible is now clear…or rather not. With the roof off for comparison…

and on…

I could use reflectors to bounce diffused light into the compartment to counteract the strong shadow although reflections would probably get even worse. But why worry, it’s obviously what the real thing would have resembled without any tricks. For a change of pace I’ll see how the other passengers shape up (one looks suspiciously like Mrs Doubtfire) before resuming Tram 2, meanwhile Happy Xmas y’all

That is seriously taking some nice shape there. It looks even better because of your low angle pic taking.

Thanks Nick & Jerry here’s a another type of stocking-filler…

Just some quick fun with Paint & it looks like Bodini MT is a close match for the font. Hard to match the red (particularly when it’s in shadow) but I think that’s pretty close to scale-colour…well, maybe it could go a couple more notches towards blood-red – e.g. Tram 2222 on page 2/March 15. Anyhow if this tram was full scale the viewer’s standing about 15m/50ft away so the colour would have lost 10% to 20% of its intensity. The actual Prague shade is very intense but if I don’t dial it down it’ll look too toy-like.

Happy Xmas & New Year especially to all Armorama staff/editors who make all this possible - thank you so much

Thanks Ski & a happy new year to you & yours. While many other contributors seem to be sleeping off their over-indulgences & in selfless devotion to posting something new, meet the passengers…

MiniArt supplies 10 figures with the kit – driver & conductor are already on duty and Tootsie will probably be relegated to the spares box, leaving these 7 and they’re a big improvement on her/him – nice poses & characterization although they all seem to have giant buttons which need replacing. Amazing how the camera seeks out every constructional defect too

Looking a little like FDR & Uncle Joe…

…but this guy’s head stands a good chance of being boosted to a starring role as Heydrich’s…

The coat’s way too clumsy so I’ll try making it out of tissue paper, but the suit’s perfect so with a different head and 2 walking legs this body should come in handy as one of Gabcik’s poses while he was carrying the sten under his folded coat.

As I’ve got another 2 sets of these to play with there’s some scope to mix’n’match but I really need some bystanders (in addition to these passangers), mainly standing women & a few kids…anyone got that Preiser set of 9 (Ref 64014) for sale?

Meanwhile look what Santa brought…

…thanks Danny (my son) & Alex (Artefakt Productions) - whodathunk this would have made the perfect gift?

The cast is growing. Those figs look pretty good for plastic ones. First time I am seeing the shattered glass product. Looks good.

WARNING : potential beverage launching out of nose hazard .
Please read and drink responsibly .

Pretty good figs from Miniart Tim , before reading your post about being aware of the buttons I looked at the pics and the first guy's buttons are not that bad but the last guy looks like Ronald McDonald's buttons .
Have you checked out BNA's MAIM figures they have tram people and a lot of other civies .

Great work man , looking forward to the paint up !!!

Hey Jerry I thought so although they don’t look quite so good in those macro views – I don’t enjoy figure painting & it usually shows, so they may never look better than they do right now. Thanks Cheyenne for the advisory I was able to step away from lunchtime cocktails just in time. The MaiM tramcar figs – echh, I no like…but they’ve got great stuff for my next project: Die Hard Zombie Carwash

Many thanks for that link Paul, not a bad price either. And now for something completely the same:

Flat white acrylic primer followed by…

…cosmetic facials…

…followed by a couple of flesh glazes, then pinkish touch-ups for lips, ears & noses…

…and wardrobe…

I used cheap artists’ acrylics, mixed with 10% Tamiya XF21 flat base for the clothes. Cluedo cast members’ Prague holiday…

My aversion to figure painting hasn’t changed so it’s up to you whether they’re any good, I get so critical I’m blind but it’s the best I could do. If they seem OK then all credit to MiniArt for making it as easy as possible – otherwise that’s all my fault. This bunch won’t appear again until the final takes as passengers inside the tram, just before being showered with broken glass & shrapnel. That Preiser set plus MB’s Women of WW2 Era (MB35148) I found recently will provide some of the bystanders needed.

I think it is a perfectly reasonable looking set of passengers myself. The set is very nice. I also know from personal experience you can make the Preiser figs also look very nice with a bit of tweeking.

Thanks JR appreciate the Preiser review as I’ve never tried them before – pls can you link me to the dio(s) you used them in?

Concluding this section, some overcast test photography…

Not so bad considering they’re taken against the light - in full sun more likely to be silhouettes until/unless I get a better camera & skills to match. I’ll also need to avoid this…

but imagining the red livery, power-arm & roof properly in place these shots give me hope it’ll be OK on the day…

Thanks guys & thanks Jerry for bumping your “Get to the Elbe” epic, in it you mentioned Preiser plastic’s flaky & hard to work with so I’ll consider myself duly warned, but you made them look pretty damn good. Looks like I need to revisit the Stalingrad & Plus Model catalogs too via High Caliber Miniatures. HNY2u2 Mike – spooky, who knew MiniArt’s figures were lifted from old R&M gags? I need to find me some mo’ Farkels

Armed with standard cement this time, it still took an effort of Will to open the Tram 2 box after New Year’s Day, but at least the bogies assembly was ready to roll as I’d built it in parallel with Tram 1’s.

And so chapter 94 of Experimental Tram Conversion resumes with the cabs sections, the most difficult area of all. My notes from Tram 1 are littered with warnings starting with “The cabs should be as wide as the compartment” - MiniArt’s Euro tram is longer than Prague’s so the 11mm excision was performed from the rear edge of both cab floors again, and the floor (which in the kit tapers towards the front) was widened to align with the compartment walls…

After repeated studying/revisiting of image refs over past months I’m reasonably sure this is more correct than Tram 1 where I’d chickened out, not fully realising how much the (comparatively) narrower cab front would lead to cramped cab windows across the corners.

Improvement 3 was a more accurate headlight & Imp 4 involved building the cab integral with its floor this time & also not connected to the compartment floor until much later, essential because of the revised mods…

As before the curved corner fillets were recycled from the original side panels but now the wider body meant new fender - slightly easier to make afresh than chop/extend the original, & now with extra supports…

The step on each side consequently had to be straightened up instead of following the tapered line – Imp # 6

I said before Xmas I wouldn’t post more blow-by-blows for Tram 2, instead it’ll be more blows-by-blows – if you look in the background other elements are being progressed at the same time to speed things up. Anyhow this tram (along with its trailer) will be the one next to Heydrich's car so it needs to stand up to closer scrutiny than Tram 1

Greetings gentlemen all, I reckon everyone’s showing remarkable patience continuing to check this thread out at the moment so as we trundle towards the 100,000-views milestone many thanks again to all on board for your interest & encouragement. It’s been a real uphill grind recently, I didn’t bargain for the amount of self-discipline required to keep repeating construction processes & trying to do it better than last time. The best way through it is in a trance, with soundtracks on repeat such as…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGGEOOff5-I

Not recommended for operating heavy machinery. Typically a couple of hours later I’ll surface remembering nothing, with the job done…but sometimes that just meant I’d tried glaring it into submission. So here’s what some sessions of transcendental fenestration can do:

Coupling arms freed to swing…

…and 2 days later as if by magic…

Similar build technique to Tram 1 with some minor improvements – I’m not inclined to perform any load-testing but those frames are particularly sturdy, helped by using the better glue. Tweaking, filling & sanding (inside & outside) still to do, but I’m much happier with these firstly because they’re virtually identical, secondly the side & diagonal windows are the same size, & thirdly all windows’ shapes, positions & angles look much closer to the real thing.

Ommmmmmmm
