Now that Takom's Bergepanther is on its way, what 1/35 scale military vehicle(s) would take over its 'Holy Grail' status?
What other kits have been ignored/neglected by the manufacturers for decades thus badly needed to be replaced by a newly tooled kit or at least to be retooled; or worse still, popular subjects (if there's any) that have never been produced by any of the mainstream companies?

Great topic. Presumably the subtext is it has to be something that will sell in good numbers.

From the modern standpoint there are still some gaps in the MBT/light tank line-up:

- Early T-72 (Ural)
- M551 Sheridan
- Challenger 1 mk3
- Challenger 2 'Megatron'

Also very surprised no-one has yet taken a comprehensive pass through the Euro Leopard 2 family (E, HEL, DK, Strv 122 etc.) Hobby Boss announced a 'Leopard 2 Project' a couple of years ago but since then, nada.

I think there's a gap in the market at the moment for 1/35 Centurions. It is a well known type with a variety of variants, different users and different markings.

I believe takom makes 3 or 4 versions of the chieftain
and Meng makes both Leopard 1 and 2 and there is nothing wrong with Tamiya's Challenger 1,Challenger 2, LeClerc and M51

Id lime to see a Nammer APC and a M88A2 from anyone but Takom
i found soo mamy issues with the last 3 Takom kits so my view of takom is not favorable

Hi Nick,
I would be curious to know which 3 kits you are talking about? I haven't brought a takom kit since the Type 69 II came out, which I greatly liked, did get the early run on the T54b which used the T55 lower hull
Cheers

I did not mean the MBTs but the ARV versions based on the vehicles' chassis:

Dachs, Bergepanzer 2, Bergepanzer BPz3 Büffel, WISENT 2, AMX-30 Dépanneur-Niveleur, FV4204 ARV/ARRV, Chieftain AVRE, Leclerc DNG/DCL, Leclerc EPG, FV 4003 Centurion Mk 5 AVRE 165, FV 4006 Centurion ARV Mk 2, FV 4013 Centurion ARV Mk 1, FV 4018 Centurion BARV etc... Oh and M51 I meant the ARV based on the M103A2 heavy tank

they have a Strv122 , LeoPARD 2A5DK and a Spanish Leopard 2E
and eschelon makes a decal sheet for marking for
Denmark,Norway,Finland,Poland,Sweden and Greece
which covers Leopard 2A4 and A5 varients

I am more into ARV/AEV and bridgelayers than “normal” tanks so for me it would be great if some of these things came as a regular plastic kit.
- Leopard 1 AVLB Biber + Leguan
- Leopard 2 Leguan + PSB2
- Leopard 1 Berger
- Leopard 2 Büffel
- Centurion AVLB
- Leopard 2 Kodiak
- Leopard 1 + 2 Wisent (ARV + mineplow)

They also have 2A4, 2A5 2A6 EX but all of early Hobby Boss Leopard 2 Kits, with the exeption of the Canadian variants, are mediocre to say the least and quite inaccurate.

Hello,

how about some more vehicles of the Cold War era (some of them have been mentioned before I just noticed)?

British Army:

- Land Rover Light Weight + 109 Long Wheel Base
- Alvis Stalwart / Saracen / Saladin (not Black Label please...)
- Humber "Pig"
- Bedford RL / MK / MJ Trucks
- Ferret Scout Car, especially Mk.2/3, but all other variants welcome as well (Accurate Armour are the only ones producing it so far, but in Resin...)
- CVRW Fox Armoured Car
- some more variants of FV432 (e.g. FV432/30, FV434 REME Fitter, ...)
- Abbot
- Centurion ARV (AFV Club???)
- Centurion AVRE (AFV Club???)
- British Centurion MBT Variants (e.g. Mk.III, AFV Club?)
- Chieftain ARV (TAKOM???)
- Chieftain Bridgelayer (TAKOM???)

US Army:
- M51 APC to go with DRAGON's M48A1 Patton Tank
- Hopefully DRAGON will follow their M48 AVLB with the M60 variant?
- M41 / M44 / M55 SP Howitzers
- Honest John
- M8 Artillery Tractor
- M88A2 ARV (should be easy for AFV Club!)
- M51 ARV

French Army:
- VAB 4x4 / 6x6
- AMX 13 APC + Ambulance + ARV versions (TAKOM???)
- AMX 10 APC (tracked)
- AMX 30D ARV, AMX 30 Pluton (come on, MENG!!!)

German Bundeswehr:
- "Biber" (Leopard 1) Bridgelayer
- Leopard 1 ARV (Bergepanzer 2)
- Spz kurz Hotchkiss APC
- Spz lang HS30 APC
- Unimog U404 Truck variants
- VW 181
- VW Iltis

Just dreaming...

Seems that HOBBY BOSS might be filling this gap starting with their announcement of a South African "Olifant" MBT.
And there are a few nice variants from AFV Club already, but they seem to be more into Israeli versions at the moment.

Slightly off-topic, but the 1/35 scale rotary wing market seems to be a little bit underserved. I would love to see some examples from the Kamov (25/26/27) range...
