Sherb-- the red is definitely the one in the place outside the gate. I never went there, but I passed on the way to church every Sunday

The above may have been heard first hand, however I do not recall the circumstances under which the conversation transpired.
Decades later, during a rousing session of "choir practise" I began narrating the above. This occurred after a reference to Full Metal Jacket had been made. My wife at that time looked at me quizzically and flatly stated "That wasn't in the movie". Friends assured her it was in the "directors cut" of said movie. Thank goodness for friends.
I never spoke of it again.......

One near Da Nang was called the Steam and Cr**m . by some of the other GIs that went there ,ive been told . There also was one in Saigon called Magic fingers ...also just a rumor .

Only place I was ever inside in DaNang that was pure military was the SF safe house. There was a government house in Quang Nghai, but was also off limits. Out by the old bus depot. Heard there were a few way up north of DaNang, but never went up there much. Have no idea what Saigon was like because I never got south of Cam Rhan Bay. But have heard rumors that they existed in NaTrang & Quin Nhon.

My Mom sent me a rather testy letter lecturing me about staying away from the Boom Boom places (what she called them). I assured her there wasn't a woman within 40 klicks of my base camp (there wasn't). She watched too much TV!
