I want to build a small dio, using the HobbyBoss AAVP Ram/RS. However, I can not locate any photos of them, after the beach assault. Did they penetrate deeper, into Iraq? Preferably, I would like to show it, with another vehicle(USMC or?...). I hope this isn't too confusing. TIA

You mean one without the EAAK? If you do, then there are some photos in this thread: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/139630&page=1

Also, what do you mean by "beach assault"? Marines attacked on the ground from Kuwait.

All of the deployment photos I found were beach assaults. Thanks for the link. I was hoping to find some of the tuna boat, in a firefight.

Beach assaults photos were taken during various exercises, not during the OIF. But AAVP7 RAM/RS did fought in Iraq both with and without the EAAK.

Thanks, again. I will, now be researching hmwvv's as deployed by the Marine Corps.

NFN but dont I recall the Marines conducting a landing during ODS or OIF 1 specifically for the purpose of drawing unts of the Republican Guard away from the fight and to the shore near the Gulf ?

The first two pics are from OIF I. This was at Saddam’s Ministry of the Interior in Baghdad, rolling out to conduct cordon & knock. The reflecting pool in the background had a garage underneath with some extremely nice and vintage automobiles. The Abrams led the march, followed by several AAVs, this being only one of two RAM/RS’ (3A104A and 3A112) in the platoon – and it was a replacement after the original 3A104A became disabled so lacked markings beyond that on the turret and ramp. No problem as markings such as serial numbers are blocked by packs on the bow and probably overcoated with dust on the ramp.

The third image is of “my chariots” during OIF II. I marked all vehicles in my platoon with the yellow shield and the individual vehicle number placed in the shield. I also applied the shield on the rear above the port water jet. This particular Humvee wasn’t totally armored (had armor doors and Kevlar blanket in bed) as it was my run about aboard camp and never left FOB Fallujah.

fnvh4d - I know very little on the use of the AAV. I was referring to the few photos I found tagged as being deployed, in Iraq. Thank you for further clarification.

AmTrac - We are on the same wavelength. I was looking at the same HMMWV, you used. So far, it looks like either Italeri or Academy with a little modification.

Matt,

Try searching for photos of TF Tarawa, you should get hits for the fighting in An Nasariyah in 2003. Most of my pics of AAV's aren't very good since they were taken of a moving vehicle from a moving vehicle.

white4doc - Thanks for the search referral. Some interesting photos, there. Patriot missile launch looks like the finger of god.

Matt, I will ask some questions so that I can better point you toward your final product.

Do you want to build the HMMWV that is in the photo above with the AAVP7? Or, are you interested in making a different vehicle?

The vehicle I will be depicting is the AAVP 7A1 RAM/RS. It won't have the EAAK.

Are there any photos that show the light fixtures? I assume there are some, internally.

Here are links to couple of my Photobucket albums that include various views of the interior. I also have a TM stashed somewhere that would provide the location of each of the dome light’s locations on the interior. I just need to locate where and which TM that info is in so I can scan and upload.

A Marine force was very publicly positioned in the Gulf in February, 1991 to make Sadaam's generals believe an amphibious landing in Kuwait was imminent, and they deployed their forces to block it. This was just a feint, while the Army did an end run around the western flank. The amphibious force stayed at sea, and other Marine forces moved up the coast from Saudi Arabia.

AmTrac - Thank you for the albums. They will be very helpful. I look forward to excerpts, from TM.

fhvn4d - That should provide a good source for definitive information.

Thumbed through the TMs, operator and maintenance - and they proved horrible in regards to location. In typical fashion they are either neglected or broken down in a less than sensible manner. Instead I returned to my photos and loaded something that will hopefully be more helpful.

Aft dome light:

Midships dome light (just aft of turret):

Comm dome light (above radios):

Fwd dome light (between driver and troop commander stations):

And there is one located in the turret (fwd left corner – barely visible in top left of pic):

AmTrack - I noticed those and thought that they may be lights. Wiring those may prove to be difficult.
