Hi there Jerry, another great looking dio from the past. Great to hear you are doing good & I think it's an awesome gift & very kind of you to part ways from such a dedicated and time consuming project. I have been away for a while myself dealing with my dads poor health issues. He has cancer in the bladder and it's terrible to see him suffer... I am strong and positive for him and help him 24/7 with all his daily stuff because it's the right thing to do... I've had zero time for pleasures of any kind including hobbies but that's okay. Better days will come around and my dio will be there waiting for me. Till then, looking at the many wonderful projects here will keep me pleased and satisfied. Thanks for sharing yet another piece of art with us all.

My sincere condolences for your Pops' suffering brother. You are a good man to be helping him out. Many don't appreciate what the parents did for them. Even if you didn't get along they still gave you sustenance, etc. Not saying that about your Dad,just in general.
Great to see you making his life easier in any small way. I had to come home from Desert Shield to watch my Mom pass away from cancer. Then I went back in time for Desert Storm.
Chin up and soldier on bubba,

On a lighter note,we didn't get plowed out until later afternoon on our street so I had to move the delivery date for the plane until next month. The Doc is only in town one day a month here.
So Mr Bomber stays with his Dad until then,

Hi Jerry, as suggested…

My camera software’s pretty basic, maybe Kurt can get some graininess into it.

Cheers, Tim

WOW !! Thanks man, that is just plain awesome ! The black and white effect,I mean. My critical eye picks out a lot of stuff that doesn't look right and I am happy to know I at least have learned something in the last couple of decades anyway. So,the effect is awesome but my model skills here, not so much. The plane looks pretty good though. That is to be expected as it was what I did exclusively back then, model planes.
Thanks again for posting this buddy !

assuming your using a Windows PC (if your using a MAC, you way ahead in the game). Get a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements, or Photoshop CS series. In it your will find programs to convert to grey scale. 90% of the cameras will not shoot true B&W, but revert to grey scale. There is also another feature to convert over to the real old tin type prints.

It also allows you to alter the color scales to get back to the original color. There is a way to calibrate the colors, but have never done it on anything newer than a Windows XP format.

Nothing tells the true quality of a photo like black & white. It doesn't lie to your eyes.

Thanks Gary for the heads up with all the good info. I will have to keep it in mind but I must admit I really don't want to delve into the computer thing any more than I already have. I would much rather build stuff. But....ya never know.

Jerry-- another outstanding highly detailed diorama, I am envious of your work. Having said that, how did you get the rivet work over the cockpit to stand out given the black background?
Thanks
DJ

Steve and DJ,
Thanks a lot guys. The cockpit was always the part I enjoyed building the most and this was no exception. The real plane had the clear parts screwed onto the internal frame with a rubber gasket in between the frame and the perspex. The screws had large washers on the outside. I had nothing else available so I hand painted all those screws on.
Right before I closed up the pit I took a trip to DC and got to see the real airplane so I knew to add the pipes for the windscreen defrosters. I had missed those with my original references.

I own way too many cameras, but my real passion is in true macro. Have a bunch of black & white film in the freezer. Fuji and some Leica's are the only ones that shoot real B&W contrary to what a sales person will tell you. Even then the Fuji is still not upto par with ISO 50 roll film. If I seriously want a great photo, I use my Pentax 645. Nothing comes close without taking out a second mortgage.

Photoshop is a pain, but Elements is much easier. There are also a couple simpler programs out there that are also cheaper. Just can do so much more with Elements.

Hobbies way cool. I used to like photography a lot more back in the day. I have a 35mm minolta that was all mechanical. Nothing to break really and had it with me through 2 tours in Europe. Ex-wife lost it in Venice. Go figure. I don't have enough time or inclination for it any more.
