Very nice work!!Well done!

Really love the chipping and the stowage,the bustle rack of the M60A1 is a pain to properly load.

Which color did you use as a base color?

My first color was khaki then dark yellow in consecutive lighter tones.

There are/were no USMC units stationed in Germany. The 1 MARDIV came from their home base at Camp Pendleton, CA. The 2 MARDIV came from their home base at Camp Lejeune, NC. 3 MARDIV on Okinawa, Japan did not deploy to Operation Desert Storm. There was one company from 4 MARDIV (USMC Reserve) from New Orleans, LA that deployed to add some more firepower. Bravo Company, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division (USMC RES) was the only USMC unit w/M1A1 Abrams tanks, the rest had M60A1 RISE/Passives and a few M60A3 TTS tanks handed down from the US Army.

USMC M60A1 RISE/Passive tanks were painted mostly in 3-tone NATO camo at the time. A few still wore 4-color MERDC camo, but not overall green. As Terry notes, they were all quickly repainted in desert sand.

Howdy everyone, It seems like just yesterday that we beat this topic up. Oh wait it was July 2006. For Drewgimpy, it is the man not the machine that determines the outcome of the fight. Again for the record: The USMC did use the M60A1 (RISE) passive tank in Desert Storm. We also used 10 of the 11 M60A3s that we grabbed from the US Army after they had transitioned to the M1A1. In the fall of 1990 the USMC 1st, 3rd and 8th(Res) tank battalions were in Saudi Arabia. They were all equipped with M60A1(RISE)passive tanks that came off of the MPS(Maritime Pre-position Squadron) ships. Meanwhile back in the states the 2nd and 4th(Res) tank battalions were going through M1A1 NETT(New Equipment Training Team) at 29 Palms, CA. They flew over to join the festivites around Dec 90-Jan 91 and drew M1A1s "commons" that were suppposed to go to the 3rd ACR. In Jan,1991 the US Armys 197th Seperate Infantry Brigade from Ft Stewart,GA had NETTed in country from the M1-M60A3 to the M1A1. The Brigade Cavalry Troop had eleven M60A3s. The USMC MEF(Marine Expeditionary Force) G4 was made aware of the fact that there was a battalions worth of 105mm M1s and eleven non ERA M60A3s available. The USMC sent down representives(myself and some other Jarheads) from 3rd Tank Bn to see what condition the vehicles were in. We reported back that the "NATOflage" M60A3s would be a good thing to pick up. MEF allocated six M60A3s to 3rd Tank Bn and five to 1st Tank Bn. Upon arrival in the battalions Field Trains area 3rd Tanks immediately turned one into a parts tank(hangar queen). Then they assigned one to each of the four gun companies in the battalion.

Whatever Mike, "Oh God of all things USMC". What you said basically is what I said. I may have missed a Bn, but the basic info is correct and no USMC units came out of Germany. If you want to go through and pull up your posts from 10+ years ago, go right ahead.

Bovine fecal matter...... dunno, read it and pretty much says in simple english what that big long drabble says with some very large and impressive words for Marine Corps standards.... not sure though, I was an air winger and therefor a POG.... we have higher standards I guess LOL. My read is this is all good info from two crusty old lifers that hits the spot for us little people who just spent time supporting the big chests.... Now both of you go to your damn corners before I have to hem you both up.

There were a few distinctions Mike made in his post that clarified some of Gino's comments. But I'm just a dumb ass tank gunner so I only care about how to keep the beast operating so I can put bullets on target.

I really like the scheme on the kit. The extra gear really is well done especially that plastic bucket! I also just finished one from the Academy kit. Seems a bunch of us got the urge to do a USMC M60A1 around the same time.
