Howdy Y'all
I figured it was bump time for this campaign. I do a little work on this model (like one or two parts) when I get bored with my other builds. This weekend I painted the tire rubber.

I'm still trying to perfect my tire painting technique. I started with a rattle-can primer then Tamiya rattle-can NATO Black. I then brush-painted thinned layers of Vallejo Dark Rubber followed by thinned layers of Vallejo Light Rubber. I like the subtle tones this creates but it doesn't show up well in the photos.

This is my first campaign here on Armorama. I'll be entering with Tamiya's classic 7.5 cm Pak 40/L46 AT gun kit. I believe it is 106 parts including figures, but I will likely not be building those.

Thanks for that info on your tire painting technique! I've never been satisfied with the monotone appearance of my tires so I want to give that a try. When you say 'thinned layers' I envision very translucent coats. Is that what you are doing?

That is exactly what I'm trying to do. I thin Vallejo paint with water that has a few drops of dish soap and build up translucent layers. I've read of another technique this morning where German scholate brown (arggh spelling) is used instead of NATO Black. I'll be trying that techniques on of these days soon.

After some modeling break I'm back on the bench. The Fennek is painted mostly used the Vallejo Air Colors.




Next step the small parts and installing the tires...

Congrats on the finished build, Brian! A good looking little kit but the weathering might be a bit on the heavy side, IMHO. These simple little builds are a great ground for testing out different techniques.

That is a micro-tank! My tired eyes couldn't have handled that!

I admire anyone who can build those tiny scales, but have no ability to join them!!

Thanks for the comments guys. I suppose when I got too it the tank had to end up looking like it had been in a really hard grimy smoky battle. It has been a learning experience and my eyes just about coped thanks to the magnifying light.

It's a very old kit, so I think fitting the gun mechanism to the shield is going to be very trick indeed. I'll let you know how it goes.

@Brian-Congrats on finishing your build. My next few braille scale kits are going to be my last. I don't have the eyes or patience anymore. Of course I just bought a V-2 rocket so never say never.

Don, I have stuff in my stash that I cannot remember the origin of too, why it was bought, why it's there, if it will ever be built...

Squadron Sales or ebay finds. That's what happens to me. Campaigns force me to build them.

Speaking of: I found a M41 at Hobby Lobby for 16 plus the 40% coupon. I may have a kit for this when I get back from vacation.
