Hey all,
Great progress everyone! I have been moving forward with my rolling pigeon coop. A few more markings and small bits and bobs and then on to the vignette base. Here is an in progress shot that gives a good idea of what the finished product will look like.

Cheers,
Rick

Hey D, nice pic. Mid I ask what truck and trailer are those in your P-61 pic? I have a 1/32 Black Widow so I just might borrow your dio idea as well. TIA

Mike

CMK makes the fuel trailer in 1/35th resin and someone (cannot recall who) makes a fuel browser conversion for the Deuce and a Half.

Time to get started on the Zvezda Gaz-AAA and Miniart Field Kitchen. To be honest, I started on the Gaz-AAA first but hopped over to the Field Kitchen. And while I'm being honest I'm going to skip through these builds a bit....especially the field kitchen kit. I got ahead of myself and didn't take alot of photos.

The Field Kitchen goes together okay. There's a good bit of cleanup involved but it all tends to fit. I've built the Tamiya German Field Kitchen and wish Miniart had included a separate pot so it could be more easily posed "in-use". Likewise, I would have liked to have seen the firebox engineered to be modeled with the door open so you could pose it in-use. For this project, the rig will be hitched to the Gaz-AAA in transport mode so it's not a huge deal.
There's not a lot to the kit. Most of the parts are fittings. The wheels are sandwiched/layered circles to give it that treaded look. The cooker is minimal...I guess you could rework it and give the pot and firebox. The box is six sided with a pull-out tray to use as a table.
The kit comes with a cook figure and Miniart's Soviet Inf at Rest set. I won't use the infantry set...I might use the cook. It comes with two food holder things. I would have liked to have seen some more accessorie likes food crates, flour sacks, mess kits, water cans, etc. ...mainly food supplies to put in the back of the Gaz
Anyway, assembly is done and it's waiting on the Gaz-AAA to be assembled...I'll paint both at the same time.

Speaking of the Gaz-AAA...the Zvezda Gaz-AAA is obviously an older kit. It's actually an old Toko kit that has also seen life as an Eastern Express kit. It's pretty basic. I'll probably replace it at some point with the Miniart Gaz. It comes with a canas top. Depending on if I can scrounge up some cargo, I'll probably scratch up some support rods and "stow" the canvas top.
I assembled the engine. The engine isn't that bad. The frame is one-piece except for the rear crossmember. The bed is supported by a pair of wooden beams that sit atop the frame.

The truck's bed is basic. The bed panels' fit are rough. The cab body fits badly on the frame. The engine fits even worse. The instruction get iffy with the exact placement of the bench seat base...which I assume also served as the fuel tank. There's no fuel cap...which I will probably add since I probably will have at least one door open. Firewall, steering column, and steering wheel are added.

More to come.

Mike, thanks so much for the info. I'll start looking for the CMK fuel trailer and conversion for the truck. Thanks again

Hitting some major fit issues. I'll chalk it up to some error in construction on my part. A bit of surgery and drive on.

The completed build. It's about 25" (63cm) in length. Weathering will come after the Trumpeter Bruckenleger IVb is built to mount on the trailer.

With my Wirbelwind on the trailer.

Can someone tell how to post these pics in the campaign gallery? I can't find any way to add them.

Go to the Gallery and make sure your are logged in. For some reason, the Gallery and Armorama seem to be separate logins.

Go to the appropriate Gallery and in the upper-right side of the screen you should see a button saying "Upload Photos".

Thanks Gary. I thought there was a way to link the pics from my gallery.

Mark,
That's one big boy!

I have reached the finish line as well, although mine is not nearly the same in scope or size, at least it IS on the shelf now and that is saying something!

Here is my Jeep and rolling homing pigeon coop. It depicts a 44th Signals Company vehicle from the 9th Army, 44th ID in their drive through the Vosges mountain passes just outside of Strasbourg in November, 1944.

About the only thing I may do is to tone down the nails, I'm not really happy with the way they turned out.

Cheers,
Rick

Thanks Clayton,
That is exactly what I was aiming for! I saw the jeep and trailer combo at the D-Day museum in New Orleans last year and thought it would be an easy build (it was). Hardest part was making my own pigeons out of Milliput but like most things it got easier the more I did. There are eleven birds all told with about half of them inside in roosting boxes ( I think that is what you would call them; any pigeon experts out there could set me straight.
Anyway, glad you enjoyed it, I know it has been one of my most enjoyable builds in many years.
Cheers,
Rick

A bit later to the party, but I will be doing ZiL-131 towing D-30. The howitzer is in the mail arriving Tuesday. Here is the truck in disassembled state.
