Now for the model!

Upper hull work proceeds.... I plan on using my good buddy Steve Munsell's Value Gear set to detail the whole back end! I added the first aid kit and infantry phone to the rear plate.

Stowage under way with a miss mosh of spare pioneer tools put in the usual places. I won;t go too crazy with detail here... this time.

After dropping the turret on the floor I have reworked the details and added the machine guns and stowage.

Thinking of doing the late Allied three tone OD/Black/lighter green. Anyone have an opinion what the third color used later should be? Medium Green maybe?

Been following your thread- Anything Sherman-related automatically gets my very interested attention! Interesting concept- An up-gunned HVSS "Jumbo"... I may even build one myself. I like Brian's idea of kit-bashing the ASUKA/TASCA "Jumbo", with one of their M4A3E8 kits, for the sake of commonality between parts, That's the way I'll probably fly, if I ever get around to doing this kind of project! I've just got so many other irons in the fire, right now!

I've done Flat Black base-coats too, followed by MODEL MASTER II Enamel FS34086 Green Drab, which is pretty dark. I then custom-mix a darker shade of MM ANA610 Olive Drab, following with "straight" ANA610, and I then I successively work into lighter shades (for post shading and highlighting) of OD by adding MM Panzergelb- It's just a personal preference, and this process kind of gets me away from the now-expected "norm" of TAMIYA XF-62 OD...

Re: The "Tri-color US camo" used on US Army Shermans near, or at the end of WWII- I think that a "Medium Green" color may be a little bit too bright for a WWII paint scheme, especially on a US Sherman. I would use something similar to MODEL MASTER II "Faded" ANA610 Olive Drab, which is quite a bit lighter in shade than their regular ANA610 OD out of the bottle. If you're going to be using paints other than the MODEL MASTER II Enamels, such as TAMIYA's acrylics, I would add a bit of their "Sky Green" to their XF-62 OD... Just a suggestion...

BTW- I really like that "counter-shading" on the front half of the Main Gun Barrel. There's a fine photo of this kind of a "camo-measure" in the SQUADRON "US Tank Destroyers in action" book; the photo depicts an M18 TD with the same kind of counter-shading. I built a virtual copy of that M18 several years ago, displaying the same kind of "camo-measures"...

Nifty build! (And I like your friend's "super firefly" on big-hatch hull with HVSS - not authentic, but sweet none the less.) IIRC the European schemes were mostly black over OD - that OD/black/jungle-green scheme is more Korea or WW2 Pacific. So it all depends where/when you expected your beast to be deployed. If Korea is ok I'd say that three-tone scheme is definitely cool! (No suggestion on the green - just use what looks good.)

There were units in Europe that used pin-striped black over OD - that can look pretty good too. Think it was 14th AD? They also added sandbags in a metal basket frame on their upper hulls.

Your buddy Darren's 1/16 Sherman is a fine example of the US "Tri-color" camo scheme. That scheme is something that I want to include in my collection- Now I need to decide which vehicle will be "the Lucky Contestant"...

No, I don't think any of those tanks reached the ETO befire the closing of that theater.

So... I got my OD coat on and was messing around with a bit of a wash before the next coat. My approach was a field level- depot maintenance paint scheme over the old scheme. However my wash went a bit AWRY as i was also starting my stowage painting.

Thoughts?

Very nice execution of what I think is a very do-able concept.
Side note: I have the same Verlinden base which I use as a generic European backdrop for photos. It's very versatile.

I think that you did just fine with your weathering job! A GOOD SAVE on what you called "getting a little carried away". Your weathering job is BELIEVABLE, and not one bit "overdone", in my opinion. NICE overall job!!!

So I finally got it "done" enough for Modelzona. It won a bronze in the hypothetical category so I am happy for now. Oh yeah, I finally took some pics of it 10 days after the contest. Enjoy.

Nice to see the finished model. I have been a bit busy and hope to get back on my projects soon. I had to put up a wall (termites liked the old one) and baby proof the house for my friends 9 month old, but after Thanksgiving things should ease up a little.
