Hi everyone ,

here i am with the photos of my new project ( by request )

Firstly i've assembled 9 figures from 5 different boxes . The figures are mainly Dragon made some of them with spare parts from Hornet and Verlinden. Especially the new helmets from Dragon kit 6306 U.S Rangers were added. I spent a few hours in order to adept them until i had a desired result. Well , i think i did a great job.

Concerning the vignette;

The scene will depict a small group of soldiers during the battle on Omaha Beach. Outnumbered and with the loss of most there weapons they try to survive on the beach. Besides the nine soldiers in there strugle to survive there will be also a Sherman halfway sunken in the sand. I have chosen the M4 Sherman 75 mm Normandy from Dragon for this. I can only hope that the deep wading gear from an academy Sherman will fit on the Dragon Sherman??? Okay we will see...

The pictures ;

1 rifleman wounded in action .
2 BAR gunner with Hornet head.
3 Machinegunner without ammo.
4 submachine gunner.
5 second rifleman .
6 medic , his arms are Verlinden
7 NCO wounded in action.
8 Officer killed in action.
9 the soldier with Hornet head and the flame thrower .

Thanks for watching , comments are welcome !

Hi everyone ,

here's an update of the first figure i have painted today. It's near completion . In the scene which i have in mind is the guy with his flamethrower device running through shallow water . Just moments before he fell into the water so actually he is soking wet .

I am thinking about to add some watereffect on him . Maybe some water in his helmet ??? Okay anyways please take a look on the photos below , i am sorry for the blurry pics..

That guy is looking very good man! Nice. Why don't you try the water in the helmet?Maybe a bit of it in the bottom and sort of a big drop spilling out the side but slanting back to show motion?

Thanks Jerry for the compliment i did my best to let him look like real. I gave it a go with the water in his helmet and i applied some still water from Valleyo into his helmet i also put a few wet spots on his elbows , trauser , shoes and gear .... Let's see what it gives .

Thanks for watching .

Can you make that stuff look more stringy? It looks kind of clumpy.

Yes i can and you right , but the product is a thick white paste when it's applied directly on the subject. So when hardened it looks transparant and thinner . The product i'm using is transparant watereffect from Vallejo. The photo shows the hardened product ,

Now to make it more realistic or stringy ( what a nice word ) i have to use a non sticky surface like a glass plate in this case and draw the paste in lines and when hardened i can peel it off from the plate and voila i have a transparant stringy substance.

I hope i make any sense ? Anyways here's the picture to show it .

Thanks for having a look.

I'll show the result on the next update

Nice work. In my opinion the addition of the water/splashes adds tremendously to the dramatic effect and really highlights the fact that this guy is haulin ass.

Thanks ! That's what i'm intending to do creating a small diorama with a lot of effects. I mean splashes , bullet tracers stuff like that and last but not least creating a realistic scene indeed .

Hi everyone ,

here i am again with an update .

First , this is the stuff that i've made yesterday it's completely hardened and therefore become transparent .

What i did next was peeling off with a toothpicker and glued it into the helmet . So this is the result for now.

What do you think ? Is it a yes or no ?
Thanks for watching .

Yes! Very nice Kurt. I gotta say your figures really have improved over the past year. The sense of motion in this guy is great and he really captures the intensity and deperation of the moment.

Kurt,
This figure looks great and the water technique is fantastic! I'm inspired now to try this myself now.

Thanks for sharing and keep up the excellent work!

Hi Kurt, figures coming along very nicely. I have been following your water effects with much interest. Just a thought, but have you tried using stretched clear sprue, with some clear on top of it? I seen it somewhere in a previous dio article, I will see if I can find it for you. It might give you a little more control of the effect than something that is flexible. Ilook forward to your next update. Best regards...Dale

That is quite nice and works very well I think. I would still have liked it if you would have tilted the water streams a bit towards the rear to give a bit of a sense of forward motion?

Thanks guys for the replies ,

Conor , yes i am very satisfied on that one . For me it's a huge difference if i can make the figures like i want , it pushes me to paint them better.

Chris , well to be honest i'm not a Master in water effects yet , i just share the way i do it and i can only advice you to give it a try yourself. There are many simple techniques giving a great effect. Glad that this build inspires you .

Dale , yes i know this technique using stretched clear sprue but i'm saving it to create the flying bullet tracers and also for the bullet splashes in the water.

Jerry , yes you mentioned this earlier didn't you ? You right , as it is now it doesn't make any sense , i created the forward motion on the figure so the water streaming out his helmet gives you a standstill effect. I'll see to it ! thanks for your eagle eye ol buddy !

More on the next update !

I have finished the BAR gunner and now i'm not sure how to post him on the scene , i mean lying on his side as if he is looking for cover ? Or standing up like he's running towards the German line ??

I really have to think about it !

Given what his right hand is doing maybe he can be throwing away his gas mask bag? Lots of guys did that pretty fast after landing.

Thanks for the reply Jerry,

that's an excellent idea but the ''problem'' is that his gas mask bag is strapped to his chest . It's that black bag if i'm not mistaking??? Eather way the thought that he's throwing away something works very tempting on me . So i came up with a discarded bag. The bag contains explosives to blow up a bunker or obstacle but the poor fella is completely overwhelmed and throws the bag away probably because he do not want to get blowed up when the bag is hit....

Okay here are the pictures..
