I like that they've gone back to having a full background in the box art painting as opposed to just the vehicle on a white background.

When I made my list of desirable kit attributes, I had a hard time deciding whether boxart background color is more or less important than the color of the polycaps.

Kurt I would say that box art can sometimes make the difference between looking at the model or not, and as such I do feel that this is an important facet.

Great review and I can't wait to get this kit!! I just finished the Academy Easy 8 and, while it's very nice, I want the Tamiya version. Now if they'd just release an M46 Patton...

Picture from Marcus Nicholls/Tamiya Model Magazine on Facebook.

Anyone else notice how everything that would be different to make a correct M4A2E8 "Fury" is on the sectioned-off part of the hull sprue? Or maybe a Korean War version? Thoughts?

Hang on - are those sponson floors I see on that sprue? Are we sure this is Tamiya?

Looking forward to inspecting one "in the plastic".

We are sure it's 21st century Tamiya, they've been putting them in lately :-)

I'll buy one, and (hold on to your hats) actually build it. I find that as my modeling time gets shorter and my focus distance gets longer, Tamiya kits and their relative ease of assembly, coupled with good detail and accuracy, are creeping to the top of my build order. Can't help it, or maybe it's my very short attention span...

Look, squirrel!!!!

I am very pleased with the level of detail. I just hope they continue to offer more variants like a VVSS 76mm and late 75mm M4A3.

And a nice new model Jumbo from Tamiya would be nice since Dragon's never saw the light of day.

Really? When you hear of a new release and you list the things you want to see - along with detailing, engineering, good instructions, and accuracy - you include "nice boxart"?!? Boxart is a marketing tool of relevance to the manufacturer and seller. I can't see how that matters when modeling.

I'd venture a guess it'll be a lot easier to build. The suspension bogies for one. Dragon and Tasca's bogies are 20+ pieces each while the Tamiya are something like 8 pieces. I've built the M51, those parts carry over to this.

Probably a dumb question but I am confused about the difference between this kit and the previous Easy Eight Tamiya put out.

So far Tamiya has put out 3 M4A3E8s (including this one). 2 were (and are) Tamiya molds while one was a rebox of the Tasca/Asuka kit with Tamiya figures. The other original Tamiya E8 was put out in, what, the 70's or 80's? So if you're talking about the other most recent Tamiya Easy Eight, it's a rebox of the Tasca/Asuka kit and is very good. That said I will be picking up one of these new Tamiya E8s first chance I have (assuming I have the money and I don't see a Meng Abrams at the same time).

If you had read the others posts on this thread, you would now that last years release was a rebox of the Tasca M4A3 with some old Tamiya figures chucked in, whilst this is completely new tooled.

Mine is in, but not shipped as I also ordered the tank crew set and they will be shipped together. It gives me time to finish some other projects.
