Hi Mark,

Glad to meet you again as campaign leader, and, as you've promised, for the second part of flak campaign.

I've really enjoyed the first and today I've proudly joined the team.

No idea about the subject, but there is some time...

Cheers

And I do expect it to be a cold job to be the gunner up on top!

Going to get pretty doggone hot when someone starts shooting back!

So... A little clarification? I recognize the lengthened BTR-ZD as a production vehicle, and certainly the twin-mount ZU-23-2 as a production item... but are you saying that there are perhaps 300 of these composite things in actual service, where I am thinking of the composite as being that gun clearly tied on top of the vehicle - with, as you said, sections of sawn logs used as props under the gun-feet? A tied-on gun propped up on logs a-top a personnel carrier may well be effective, but certainly doesn't come across as any sort of production item!

So maybe this has turned out to be a rather popular field conversion using some widely-available vehicles and guns?

And I do expect it to be a cold job to be the gunner up on top!

Cheers!

PS: Where was this picture taken? Anyone know what specific conflict / theater this thing was used in? Any specific unit(s) associated with this conversion?

Bob

the BTR-D is the lengthened variant, the ZD is the air defence version of that which is designed to tow the ZU-23-2 and also has roof mounted racks to carry some MANPADS. as youpooint out, i think this is a popular field mod, though there are numerous pictures of this mod on the web, and not just of a couple of units, so the 300 odd mentioned is probably a good enough guess

still looks good as well

on the side, i've now signed up for the campaign, my first one so off to decide which one to do

Hi Guys,

This is what I am planning for this campaign, HMs Dragon, type 45 destroyer

The kit decal sheet has the red dragon she had painted on the bow, will also be using the White Ensign etch.

And this, will be in the colours of the Hawklords Chapter

Interesting combination--looking forward to seeing how they turn out, especially since we've never had either a ship nor a Warhammer thingy in the previous flak campaign.

does anyone know if theres any manufacturers out there that make a gunner for the zu-23-2 as i ike to addfigures to get a sence of scale to mu models.

i dont mind a small bit of adjustment to the figure but my skills aint that good for much more.

looking for modern soviet airborne infantry as i'll be doing the BMD-ZD mod for this campaign

also i wouldnt mind a go at this, the BIHO from korea. The chassis is based on a K200 KIFV but with an extra wheel

none of KIFV's available look similar though

I came across the ancient Heller kit of the AMX 30 DCA. Too bad nobody picks up on this idea with the Meng AMX 30 base already available.

Colin, with BMD-1 from Panda and Trumpeter's Zsu-23 you might get a pretty decent build !!

Guys,

I am definitely in with this one! I was able to finish the first campaign with a 2K12 KUB in Czech color.

for this campaign, I'll be a little more adventurous! I just received Legends Production conversion set to make a Canadian ADATS. Just waiting for the donor kit to arrive.

Cheers,

Christian

Ok gents, I am in.
I'd love to say I am going to do the Panda Tunguska I have been jonesing to start, but let's get real. My chances of finishing that (read as: maintaining my attention to the build long enough to finish before the deadline) are slim to none: and Slim left town.

EDIT wrong gun in the photo..doing just the ZSU 23/2 out of the OTHER Meng pickup truck..

So, in the interest of actually COMPLETING a campaign...

Been wanting to do the Tunguska for ages, as well. Someday. Still, the technical is pretty cool.

The decals and the etch.

And the Space marine Job.

The last time you will see both on the same post.

Cheers.

I need to relax while i find my groove in my first few campaigns so I'm going simple. The re-released Monogram M14 anti-aircraft halftrack mostly out of the box. No compulsive correcting anything but have fun.

Stephen, that's the spirit. After all it is ll abo finding the fun in the hobby. Sometimes that is counting rivets, some times it is just building OOB.

Mr. K, cool choice. almost unknown vehicle to me so I will follow your build with interest.
