Greetings!

I've been planning on building the Commanders/ISW 1/350 USS Benson DD-421 for this Campaign. I placed orders with two different reputable online Hobby stores back on Aug 18 and I'm still waiting for them to arrive! One of the stores made an honest mistake and forgot to include the Gold Medal Models PE set. They've already corrected their "oops" and I should be receiving it Wednesday. The other company remains a mystery at the moment. I've not been able to reach them through email or phone calls (???). They've always been great in the past, so I'm going to keep trying to resolve this amicably.

In the meantime, here's my Starting Pic with the date. She's the USS Benson, but the resin kit comes with both flat-sided and round funnels to allow for building a Benson OR Gleaves unit.

Right now I'm leaning towards a Gleaves unit with a rounded bridge (some had squared bridges), most likely the USS Grayson DD-435.

I'm not very adept at adding pictures, so I hope this works!

Hi all,

Due to real life interuptions my progress on the USS Herrmann has stopped but hopefully that will change soon.

Updates to follow

With that i have a question for admin, any chance the end date for thisCampain can be extended for say three to four weeks

Bob,

Issue in doubt? Sounds like you need a fire mission from either the 10th Marines or the Ringgold at the line of departure. Seriously though, did you run into a road block?

hey yall,

Well the USS Heermann hit he drydock and the ship builders went right to work. They started on the MK37 gun director. The kit part was pretty plain so I decided to add some detail.

and here is the finished product

after that I prepped everything for priming

and then masked for the camouflage

That is all for now but I have already painted the light gray. Some touchup are required but that will come this weekend.

more to follow

Dave

Hey John,Just ran into some nasty inter locking m.g. fire with stubborn defence, movin in land now. Situation report now, we are wining. Marine with the satchel charge is finally done. Just finding the right arms was a P.I.T.A. but I like the way he came out. Have a few extra supporting figures on the way thanks to Taffy 3,my good friend Al. 15 figures and the bunker with ammo crates and 3 55 gal. drums takes a lot of figuring to get it laid out just right. Lets toss in 2 palm trees and a scared rat too. Will mix and pour it all out on the 4x6 inch base. The extra month dead line came in real handy for me.

Excellent! It's always those stubborn positions that throw a monkey wrench into the works. Looking forward to pics!

Well, Attempts at making water for the Japanese destroyer failed miserably last few days. Arg!

Back to drawing board. I may just use some kind of casting plaster painted instead of clear epoxy.
The epoxy never looked like I wanted it to, even using hair dryer for making waves....
I do like the translucent look of it though a lot.

Who knows, I have 25 days

My first set of Japanese must of got sunk by a Gato, never made it from the out for delivery to my house, so just ordered another set from MegaHobby. Should be here by the weekend. In the mean time I replaced the flamethrower Marine with one getting ready to toss in a grenade. It fits the senario much better. Still crowding in more figures and equipment onto the small base. Never thought I could put so many figures on a 4X6 inch base and still have a consivable story.

Hi all,

I wanted to thank you for the extension but it appears that even with that I am not going to be able to finish. I probably need another two weeks. In my rush to get finished before Friday I started making mistakes and the paint is not as clean as I would prefer.

I want to thank you for the opportunity of joining this campaign and everyone is doing great work. I look forward to seeing the campaign gallery upon the end.

thanks again all.

Here's my update and the conclusion of my LTV(A)-1 Build:

1) Painted the running gear/tracks and completed the rest of the assembly:

2) Added Radio antenna cut from 0.3mm brass rod and painted flat black as primer:

3) Painted the assembly with Olive Drab and applied the decals:

Finally completed my build! I've posted additional photos of the finished kit in the Gallery.

Well, It looks like I will not make the deadline.
Friday while preparing for the Boise Show and Contest in my rush to get other models boxed up a drop one on my Japanese destroyer. I wasn't quite done doing the riggings or the base. but thought I would get it done by today anyway.
But alas it now needs major work so I di not even attempt to finish it.
But I will keep going on it more slowly now and probably correct a few things I did not like to much.

Congrats to all who finished the build the models look very good.

Sorry to hear that Jeff. Damage to a build is a great destoryer of motivation. I had dropped mine but the damage was not too bad for a 1/35th bunker at the beginning of the build but would be just too much at this point.. I can just short of imagine what happens to a ship or aircraft. Well this weekend I take my inprogress photos and then get them on the site here. The most dreaded part of any campaogn for me. Then off to the paint factory department. I was pushing for one more figure tonight but the base was having none of that. So I put it down and walked away till tomarrow. Shafest move at this point... Still looking for a title that will fit it as I go along.
