John, a question for you: This is my first campaign - can I go ahead and begin construction with the posting of my initial box/date photo? Or do we wait for an official start time.

Not sure how this works.

Mike

Also, to get credit for the ribbon at the end of your build you must be ENLISTED too! This is where all the official rules are listed.

Well I thought I was enrolled in this campaign but appearently I was mistaken.

Nito (John P.) would you sign me up please? As of now it looks like I will be doing the MAZ 537 F/A missile transport push truck shown earlier.

Speaking of trucks, 8X8's and 10X10's... check out THIS video I just found of the PLS System!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSE8NwUe9EE

Ya see John... this is why I wanted a 10X10. Watching this platform in action is so encouraging and inspiring all at the same time.

I am even going to build the remaining kit as a 6X6 HEMTT in one variation or another.

Heck, who knows... this may be the start of a whole new interest of lightly armored vehicles for me.

I have a 1/72 scale Revell, 3204: Faun SLT50-3 + PzH2000 + Fennek kit. Can I use the Faun SLT50-3 part of it for this campaign. If so would the trailer be admissible or do I just use the truck part of the kit.

Just the truck part.
8x8 only.

I mean you continue the build after but for the Campaign just the truck part.

John,
What about a heavy rail car? It would be the old Dragon kit, not the rebox with the Panzer 3. I have a local friend that has one he's wanting to swap. It's probably too late for Steel Wheels, but I figured I'd ask for this campaign.

If it's not allowed, I'll probably go with the BRDM-1 (or 2 or the Gaskin) with the secondary wheels lowered. Or I'll do a Trumpy LAV...maybe the recovery version.

Alex, BRDM's or LAV's are ok.
I don't think the rail car is suitable for this one, use it on the Steel Wheels Campaign.

I've heard that's a nice kit Sal.

I guess I need to do that soon... I have kits I no longer want to build as new ones come in to replace them so fast! Good luck with the sale.

John,
No problem. I thought I remembered that the wheels had to be driven but I didn't see it mentioned on the rules page. I skimmed over the pages and didn't see anything. Never hurts to ask...plus I wanted to double-check on the BDRM before I made any orders. I'm still undecided between the LAV and the BDRM. Whichever I do will probably be used later on in another project.

Sal,
I've built a Stryker but it's not my cup of tea. I did check your sale page. As far as modeling, I'm moving in to a different direction. I'm already moving away from campaigns a bit to focus on finishing projects. And I'm moving more towards scratch building, sci-fi subjects, and sea vessels.

I wanted to build 2 for this Campaign, but as usual I won't make it so I picked this one:

John,
I built that one for the Rapid Recon Campaign. Nice, fun little build. I think it builds great right out of the box.

I ordered a Trumpy LAV-R for this one this morning. I've been wanting to try Trumpy's LAVs for a bit so it works out. I finished an old Italeri LAV for Unfinished Business so I really didn't want to do another 25mm gun vehicle.

I ordered a Gaskin but I don't know if they had the drop down wheels. The ML review I read for it didn't mention them. Either way, I'll probably use it for Fabian's $20 Campaign.

Looks to be a few nice casual builds coming up over the next few months. I'm looking forward to them.

Alex, what colour did you use for the base colour ?
So you got no issues with the kit ?
Did you add any AM stuff ?

Good choice with the LAV, I never build any of the Trumpeter's or Italeri's either.

John,
I used a rattle can of Rust-Oleum Deep Forest Green Camouflage Paint. I usually use rattle cans for lower hull and insides of road-wheels just ease and quickness. I was going to use an old tin of Polly-S Olive Green but I had some bad results with it on another kit. Given its age, I figure the paint was bad. The Rust-Oleum paint isn't bad. It's actually a little darker than I would have liked, but after you wash and weather it I think it compares well.

Model Masters Forest Green is supposed to be a close match to the real thing but I've not used it. I use Tammy Olive Green and Nato Green for Nato paint schemes.

Of course you realize you're asking a colorblind person about paint colors.

By the way, my Trumpy LAV-R arrived so I am ready to go on this one. It looks to be a nice kit.

I combed the stash and came up with the WW2 SDKFZ 234 Puma by Dragon. I haven't done any WW2 German in a long time and it looks like a good kit.
