The Irish troops in Chad dod not use white....what are the criteria: is it Peace Keeping versus Peace Enforcement?

Sorry, yes, anything under UN mandate is good for the campaign.

My question was more around how do UN forces decide to use overall white or leave vehicles in their national paint scheme?

I´m currently building an M109A2 Howitzer as UN vehicle. https://archive.kitmaker.net/forums/217634&page=1#1828578

.. but I would opt in with another UN vehicle. Maybe one of these: UN M60A3, an T-72 with ERA or an Type59.

There were so many UN vehicles in use to choose from: Badger, AIFV, AML, AMX30-Auf1, BTR- 60,-70, -80, BMP2, BRDM, Centaurs, Cougar, CV9040, Dachs, ECR-90, Ferret, Grizzly, Kürassier, Leclerc, Leopard 1A5DK, LAV III, M113, Nyala, Pandur, Puma, Scimitar, Scorpion, T-55, Taurus, VAB, VBCI, VCTP, VECC, Warrior, Wiesel, YPR 765 and much more

I could go for this! Just received my Centauro and echelon UN decals for the Italian force in Lebanon duty. While gathering photos for that I found a pic of a UN BTR-70 in the Bosnia conflict. Captioned as from the Ukraine, in white scheme, and looked crewed by winter troops from east Europe.

Rick, there were ukrainian and pakistani BTR-70 in the Bosnia UN Mission UNPROFOR. With the new Trumpeter BTR-70 this would be anice build.

For the Ukrainian BTR-70 Star-Decals (former Bison Decals) just released a decal set http://star-decals.net/star35987.html. They are nice but have two minor color differences to some photos.

It usually has to do with the urgency to deploy the vehicles or the limited expected duration of the mission.

Here is a Canadian Lynx in Cyprus in 1974 after hitting a mine. Note the limited white patches.



Here are Canadian Ferrets in Cyprus in 1967 with only the UN emblem for markings and no white at all.

I'm enlisted, I'm pretty excited about this campaign actually, there are a lot of options out there. Has there ever been any thought of putting together a NATO/KFOR campaign too? maybe do them together. Just some food for thought.

PS anything and everything used in the Korean war by the international forces is UN as well.

I think its to do with the mandate, if they are a peace keeping force they are in white but if they are there to implement the peace they are in camo.....

NO, it is not!

In general the UN doctrine has five different operations:
1. preventive diplomacy
2. restoring peace (peace making) It should restore peace, decrease an (armed) conflict It is used to reduce the problems and should contribute to a solution to avoid a (re)start of the war.
3. peace keeping missions. Its intentions is to restrict, decrease or solve a(n armed) conflict as a third party. They (in general) need the authoisation of the international community and the warrying parties. Military and NGO cooperate to execute these missions.
4. post conflict peace restoring missions
5. peace enforcing operations. Here at least one party does not agree upon an intervention by a peace force. These actions can be inter or intra state character. The use of violence is relatively high. Mainly, these actions will be handed over to a (regional) security organisation, like the NATO or a coalition of states.

The main difference is that in 3. the use of force is limited to self protection. Here, UN troops try to limit the conflict. (as in the beginning of the Bosnian conflict) In case 5. the UN becomes an active party in the conflict and use force to restore peace andto seperate or eliminate the warrying party or parties.( As in the Korean conflict) So, there is quite a difference.
These operations can be put into a spectrum of conflict. This spectrum shows the sort of relations between the groups of population or nations.Peace, (armed) conflict and post-conflict. For conflict you may also read ' war' .

All this is to read in the "An Agenda for Peace", written in 1992 on request of the UN Security Council, written by the UN Secretary-general. It was afterwards completed with the "Supplement".
