I was searching for some info on a Dragon kit and found an old campaign, designated "OOB Dragon". I would like to propose "Pt. II". I'm thinking starting Nov. 1, 2014 and running to Mar. 1, 2015. This should allow for plenty of build time. This means, no am or scratch built parts. Figures may accompany a vehicle, but they must also be oob Dragon figures. Scales acceptable are 1:72 - 1:35. You may use several Dragon kits for parts, but they absolutely must be oob parts. I will also allow Cyber-Hobby kits, as they are a branch of Dragon. One photo must be submitted of the kit, before you start it, two progress photos and one of the finished build(to be posted in the campaign gallery). As for those of you who have participated or are participating in some of my campaigns, you know I am pretty lax. However, the requirements for this campaign will be set in stone. Any suggestions on time frame will be given due consideration. I hope this grabs some sparks grandiose plans and anxious interest.

Matt, I don't mind starting it earlier than Nov.
I don't have any Campaigns scheduled for this time frame (May-Dec. 2014).
But let's see how this one goes with interested members and we have plenty of time to choose a good starting date .

Hi Matt,
count me in. I'll do the big fat ugly T28

Your time frame or Johns, either are fine by me

Isn't Cyberhobby a part of Dragon? If so, will Cyberhobby be included in the campaign?

As I stated, the time frame is negotiable. Just thought all the guys that couldn't go "whole hog", might enjoy this one. And, it will provide a good reference for anyone considering how the dogs and rivet counters look next to each other.

Now HERE is something I am READY TO DO" - in "spades"!

With only perhaps 200 or so Dragon and Cyber-Hobby kits in the stash, I am pretty certain that I'll be able to find something I could build whenever this will start...

Count me IN.

I would, however, strongly suggest that you keep it to out of ONE box and NOT allow a kit-bash from multiple Dragon / CH boxes. The "true spirit" of OOTB is, I think, out of one box and see what you can do with the pieces provided. IF you allow me to, say, pull extra PE and extra tools and cans and figures and extra parts and "better edition parts" and other stuff from a newer or richer kit to supplement some older or maybe less-well-endowed kit, that resulting build will not really be out of the box it came in - and could not fairly represent building the kit from its original parts.

Imagine for example that I want to build the Dragon Pz. 1B "DAK" - comes as a kit (it IS a nice kit - albeit a little elderly and lacking some detail and finesse found in more-recent Dragon Pz. IB variants...). But it has an older set of running gear and suspension and older idlers and link-tracks on the sprue and older-style tools with molded-on clamps... and I can source much nicer wheels and better springs and idlers and MagicTracks and extra tools and PE clamps and stuff from other Dragon Pz kits. I could even probably find some newer hull-panel and better glacis-plate and even maybe a better turret (or at least some better parts thereof). At what point did I step from building my Dragon Pz. IB DAK from its original box - "OOTB" - over to building a Pz IB DAK from all-Dragon / CH parts?

PS: MAYBE folks might be interested in something like a "Build it from Dragon (or pick any other one maker of choice) parts ONLY kit-bash campaign"... Where the idea would be to use only stuff from actual model kits from one manufacturer's line and no AM parts - so here one might indeed legit combine tools from one kit with hull from another and tracks and gear filched from other (Dragon) boxes - but no AM PE, resin sets, and gun-barrels need apply.

David shut up , you're just pushing Bobs ego and he'll go and buy more of their kits so that normal guys like me can't get hold of what we're looking for .
I bet Bob has at least 3 Premium edition Panther A's, with the postcard in the box, in there and here I am in Germany and can't get 1 anymore
Only kiddin' Bob, hope you manage to build at least half of them

Careful, David, careful! Now I've (very conservatively) outted my stash a bit... I think I'll go buy a couple more Dragons (and maybe just 1 more CH white-box, too) off the recent evilbay listings - you know, "just to assuage things"! My ego is fragile and easily plumped - John is so right!

Actually... it's pretty dreadful. NEW stuff keeps coming along and I am so waaaaaaay behind as it is!

I think I'll go have a Dragon sale.

But, no, John. Not in your dreams, mate! I ain't cuttin' lose of those 3 premium Panther A kits. No way! (Now if only I actually had them... phooey!) But I do have a small stack of those panzerjager 1B mit 7.5cm StuK 40, and a few BergePanthers mit Pz IV turms...!

There are beaucoups of Dragon kits just screaming their wrappers off in my closet - I'll build ONE OOTB - from its own box ONLY- for this campaign, no matter what timeline and no matter whether folks can mix and bash or keep it to one box only.

I'm right now sorta favoring another Pz IB subject, but those Pz III kits call loud, too As we're still far from any likely start-date, I have plenty of time to waffle and dither and change my mind a few times!

Bob: I think I'm going to stick with kit bashing. The spirit of the campaign is to build a Dragon/CH kit. So long as it stays within those guidelines, I don't believe it defeats the oob purpose. As well, I don't see too many people willing to buy another kit or kits for one accurate build. If they do, and stay within the product range, it will open others' eyes to the quality of the kits produced.

No second thought on this one, Matt.
Definitively count me in!
With 350 Dragon kits in the stash I´ll sure find something suitable…

Sure! Wish I have. (Just trying to get Bob´s ego back to normal)

Cheers.

Matt;

Hey, I'm OK with whatever you want the campaign to be!

I AM, however, being perhaps just a little bit "too subtle" here and not actually simply saying "out loud" that maybe this ought not to be called "OOTB", as this could be more than a little loose in how some modelers might use that term: In that maybe some folks who participate in show contests (like myself) and decide that they want to enter something into that "Armor-OOTB" sub-category could come a-cropper if they actually bring in the build they might do here (as I will), where they used parts from other Dragon kits (which as said, I won't)... at least in the IPMS shows I've attended / participated in, "OOTB" is taken to mean "built out of that one box with no AM and no scratch enhancements added". And one generally has to provide the instruction-sheet for your build... so those other Dragon parts are a "no-no" in that show context. So I'm just suggesting that we could acknowledge whatever it is we want here and call it Dragon Mix n Match or the Big D Kit-bash or whatever to maybe more-clearly reflect that is what at least some will do.

Again, I'm OK with whatever you want to do here. I'll use this campaign as the excuse I need to actually build one of my few Dragons right out of the box it came in - and darned that accuracy biz! It'll be whatever Dragon fobbed off on me, and full speed ahead!

I've been thinking on it and decided to drop the "OOB" designation. No am parts or scratch building will be allowed. All parts must be Dragon/CH products.

How about to post a photo of the instruction step with the photo of the progress build in accordance?

Rules said that we only need to show a couple of progress photos.

You can change that to at least five or six with the instructions as background or something like that, and at least one or two pics with the complete model unpainted. I don´t know. Just my two cents.

Raul

PS: Of course this is just to try to probe that the model is ACTUALLY OOB. I don´t distrust anybody, but we don´t have the “face to face” and info you have in a “live” contest.

Count me in as well. I did a 5cm pak with crew for the last one. I'm good with a May or June start....and run it to the end of the year. I think that the longer the delay the easier it is for a campaign to lose steam.

Sadly to say, I don't have a single Dragon kit in the stash. Actually I have a CyberHobby 251, but that's allocated to the sd.kfz. 250/251 campaign. Either way, I'll pick up something. I'd like to snag an old Dragon Night Fighting Panther or maybe a Panther F. And I'll build it strictly OOB....plus cement and paint of course.
