Ok.. For the time being I guess it seems like I'm the only one who's actively in this for now...

Anyway, paint is starting to go on. I got the wheels painted OD, and the turret is mostly painted gray primer.

Well, I've finally had a minute... I haven't started any assembly, but have finished widening the turret ring.

Before:

After:

I cut the pour stub off the Tank Workshop turret ring, and it fits like a champ. Now to find some time for building...

Well... No action for about 7 days. Might as well stir up some trouble here

As per my BLog, and to add get something going in here, I finished the kits figures. Now these pictures, again, aren't 100% up to date as I have added some rank badges on since then.

Here are the figures. I know, they're very glossy. I'll be dulling them down when I spray a matte clear over the tank in the end.

Also my decal sheet came a few days ago. And I bought some bags and rucksacks, and a sheet of unit/rank decals that I used, from a gracious fellow member here on Armorama.

And here are the decals I'll be using:
Bison Models M4A3E8. I'll be building this as "A Paper Doll" of the 6th AD, 68TH TB (right?).

I might be the world's biggest dum bass! I had some time to build this weekend, so I assembled the suspension units and lower hull of my M4A1. It was some time after finishing the last bogie unit, as I worked on the air filters, that I had my "Doh!" awakening. The Dragon kit has the "overhead" return roller bogies, while the WoT M4 has the "offset return roller with skid plate" bogies. How could I not have noticed this before?!? Additionally, the kit has the "box" air filters while the WoT M4 has the "round" air filters. Presumably, I could find some aftermarket air filters that wouldn't set me back too much, but I'm not sure that I'm down with buying another kit to obtain the correct bogies. It might be time to reconsider this ill-fated project and just build the Dragon kit as a Torch/Tunisian M4A1 and look for another kit for the WoT build...

On another note, how about 9.3? I know that the badges don't mean anything, but the "Fire for Effect" award might be the silliest yet (I've already gotten almost 50 awards of this badge).

On a final note, I am now occassionally driving the T24 gun motor carriage. I'm trying to get the hang of the style of play required for this vehicle, but so far my stats have taken a pretty hard nose dive (apologies to anyone who ends-up on my team while I'm trying to figure this one out). Anyone else just indulge a whim to try a different vehicle class?

Hm... Never heard of this "Fire for Effect" award... Maybe it's because I haven't played in a whole and haven't updated yet. What exactly is it?

As for your final note: I have tried the French artillery line. And whatdoyaknow, I got a top Gun on my first game with the tier 2 arty. Don't know how but I did. And then I got a TG again on the tier 3 or 4 tank... But I stopped as it got to stupid.

I got the hull sprayed gray. First time I actually had a true airbrush session. I used Tamiya sky gray at first then thinned with a few drops of water. I got low on that so I mixed in some dark sea gray from Tamiya. It was pretty successful actually. I think I'm going to have to but some Tamiya OD and airbrush that on (after testing it first, of course).

Fire for effect ribbon is for dealing more damage than you have HP. Also gotten Arsonist ribbon for killing a tank by setting it on fire. Duelist for destroying at least two tanks that shot at me (you shoot me and I won't let you get away). Fighter ribbon for destroying 4-5 tanks. Bruiser ribbon for destroying 5 crew or modules.

For me the Fire for effect, Bruiser seem to be the most common per game. And of speaking of new lines I had stayed away from the US light tanks. After the Stuart, was just the chaffee and a dead end. But now with the new tanks I got back up into the Stuart and grinded for the Chaffee. Grinded all the modules for the chaffee. Not a bad tank but I don't like the terrible penetration of the gun. Can't even reliably pen tanks of the same tier.

Well, I poked around a bit and saw that the AFV Club VVSS suspension kit can be had fairly cheaply. Also, Formations makes the correct (i.e., round) air cleaner to represent the WoT M4. I guess, at this point, it would be a shame to throw in the towel. So, Once I get past the next week or so, I'll break out the plastic and get the required bits on the way (so, there will be a brief pause in my building).

The great shame is that I hate building tank suspensions, and now I'm going to have to do it twice! Maybe I will some day find a use for the (incorrect) set that I've already built. (sigh)

Finally, as for the new ribbons, there is also one for getting a kill by setting off an ammo secondary expolsion (maybe "ammo dump," or something like that); I've gotten this one at least twice already.

Ok. Olive Drab paint is down. Fixed some areas where I missed before. Airbrushing is fun Time to do it some more. I'll post pics of my progress later. Next is for the Future.

Ok... I guess I'm the only one who is participating in this right now? Come on, anyone have any builds to post?

On another note, I got the decals on. All that's left is to paint the back side of the idler wheels, attach the wheels and do some basic weathering. So now, some pictures:

Also, is it possible that guns would be held on the tanks like this:

And would this be OK as well?

I'm all in for another WoT-campaign. I finished the first one with my Super Pershing and I let my WoT clan decide and it ended up with the newly arrived Takom KV-5 kit with Fruil metal tracks;

Not my favorite tank as of yet, but I'm starting to like it. I bought the tank just a few weeks ago and I've been focusing on medium tank missions since then.

Mikey. Nice Sherman!
With regards to the weapons on the tank:
- The grease gun might be okay if the tank remained static. If is bounced around off road too much the gun may slide off the turret unless it is held on by a sling (not sure if the grease guns used slings?....)
-Is the carbine for the crew? IMHO, the carbine on the track guard would be a no-go, unless you have a picture showing it was stowed there. It is not close at hand for personal defence, would probably slide off the tank, and get covered in mud. Because it is a longer weapon and may not be brought inside, possibly placing it on the turret roof or strapped dwon on the engine deck somewhere. The problem with the engine deck is same as the track guard, no easy access to it if things got tough for the crew.

Thanks Dave. I didn't have them down as that's their definite location but I kind of intended it more as it was just stuck there by a soldier walking along side it I suppose. But either way I'm not going to put it there.

I started the Black wash today and it's almost completely not noticable because of the darkness of the Tamiya paint. I mixed some Pollyscale night black with some water. Probably 2.5:1 or 3:1 Water to paint and it's going well. I don't think it's thin enough yet, actually. It doesn't flow as well as I would like. Tomorrow I should be able to finish up the wash and then I'll start with some Vallejo European earth wash on some areas. I also might work the tracks a bit. I plan on spraying them first with Tamiya Metallic Gray, then maybe I might brush on some hairspray if it's possible, then spray on Tamiya Gunmetal, chip the raised areas, hairspray there again, and some acrylic Rust and chip. Good idea you think?

It's great to see progress here. I am especially eager to see the KV-5 build. I hate those tanks in WoT, as hitting the small machine gun turret is the only way to do any damage to those things.

As for me, I've just ordered the AFV Club VVSS M4 suspension and will get back to building when it arrives.

Well those big blocks do have plenty of spots, but you need a decent gun or go home bruised.

Would have more done but the What if 4 deadline is coming up and I've been sick. That and plenty of "research" sessions:

Amen! The "research" has largely supplanted the building for the last stretch o' time.

First progress on my KV-5:

First page in the instruction booklet done. Very nice quality on the plastic and no fitting issues so far.

I have the tracks painted. First layer of Pollyscale Aluminum, then airbrush Tamiya Gunmetal (oh, what a damn hassle that was), and now I'm trying to mix up a thick(er) wash of ModelMaster Acryl Rust. As it turns out I unexpectedly now have multiple colors that I up could use for rust. Imagine that. . I will try to go out and try to buy some pigments that represent some kind of European dust. Till then...

The AFV Club VVSS suspension arrived today:

I will be able to resume work on this kit (now to try to pry off the incorrect suspension, without doing too much damage, sigh).

By the way, yesterday I earned my first "barrel star." Is this award new? Not sure that my build will have the star, as I doubt that I can find one small enough.

Finally, I'll also hit my 150th "Fire for Effect" today. Though I kind of mocked the award when 9.3 came out, there is a certain fun in racking-up those awards.

The barrel star shows that you have achieved in gaining more xp for a certain period than 85% of the other gamers in the region. I have one for my Hellcat.

Yeah, new thing. Basically the number of stars represents you were as good or better than a certain percentage of users of that same vehicle over a certain period of time.

I also got one on my ISU-152 recently and oddly enough I manged to get one for my SU-8. Since they nerfed accuracy and aim time so many patches ago, arty is not what it used to be. Not to mention the SU-8 got bumped down a tier (we really don't need to split the SU-14 honestly) and the average damage of a shot has gone waaaaaay down. Doing maybe 100hp damage when I used to be able to do 700+hp, and I'm talking direct hits here.

Ok, tracks are finished for the most part. S
What do you think of it? Are they ok or might they need a bit more work? Also some more weathering. I also added all of the pioneering tools.

I might get in to this one after the Holidays. I've started back playing the game a bit and have been enjoying my E25...so I'd probably do that.

Second update on my KV-5 build:

Road wheels, return rollers, sprockets and idlers are all done. Not sure if I should hold the fenders off until painting and assembly of tracks are done. Pretty tight fit around the sprockets.

Also discovered that the Friul ATL-14 does not contain enough links for the KV-5 (8 road wheels per side) since it's designed for the IS-3 (6 road wheels). Missing about 5 or 6 links (196 links in the box) to complete the tracks on each side and the included plastic links did not fit the Friuls either.
