Where have you been, HB isn't releasing this kit anymore, it has been given to Merit International as part of their new kit line, which is out and available now.

I don't know, Scott....where have you been? According to these links (and others) Hobby Boss' version of the M19 is due out in February 2014. The Boystown link is even offering a pre-order price.

http://www.boystownmilitaryminiatures.com/HOBBYBOSS_135_US_DIAMOND_T_M19_TANK_TRANSPORTER_HARD_TOP_WITH_40_TON_ROGERS_TRAILER_PRE-ORDER_DUE__FEB/p1144420_10038607.aspx

http://www.cybermodeler.com/special/2012_armor_manuf.shtml

I guess they are all behind the times as the M19 (among other kits) were re-tasked to the new Merit International Model Line.

And has been available for sale about 2 weeks before Xmas.

Hi all,
Today I received a Diamond Wrecker. at first glance very nice kit. Some little things are not a problem. I can not wait to get started.
I found not a single mistake. I think the wheels are too big.
Wrecker had wheels 9.00-20 and these are the same size as the version of M 980/981 Tractor (12.00-20) The wheels should be slightly smaller than the used White 666.

???

I guess Rod is talking about the cargo bed tarp....

H.P.

Or maybe he is referring to the cold weather doors for the canvas top which must be bought separately . Which by the way I had no problem with b/c not everyone would be doing a cold weather scene.

Good to see some comments here regarding the wrecker, I felt very strange there was nothing said about last few Mirror releases
It is exactly 5 years since I built my first kit ever and also posted it here
Managed few more build since then, but certainly I do not have 40 years experience in building kits like some of you. Strangely, I managed to build this wrecker kit from test sprues without much problem, and after reading about fit issues mentioned elsewhere by Mr Crisman, I rushed to build yet another one from production sprues, but again, I could not find any problem except missing hole that needs to drill on a winch part because of tool issue that has been fixed straight then for following production. So yes, kit is very complex with lots of details, and might not be easy to build for some, it also has some (not all) larger gates to avoid filling issues or ejector marks, but it is produced in ABS, so parts would rather bend than break or crack, and I removed my 570 parts without damaging any (I managed with my humble 5 year skills again, because these large gates are mostly very thin and easy to cut with fresh scalpel blade. I also did necessary cleaning some seam lines and gate cuts and things involved (although I did not see much flash on roughly 500 kits I boxed myself, and neither on my own building samples, so I did not have to deal with any flash, but I did not see number kits boxed in China, and cannot say if they had any more flash - personally I dont think so. Also I cannot see much flash on images posted here earlier. Besides I almost believed that cleaning parts was more or less a part of this hobby? Just a thought.
What else is there? Oh, the price here or there - certainly it has nothing to do with this matter, one thing is RRP and another thing is the actual price elsewhere.
Instruction - right, with my poor IQ 143 and without 40 years experience in building kits I had 6 or 7 people to check them out before print, and they found this large way showing every single step by step pretty good and clear. It will probably depend on personal taste and view.
What else - oh, the instrument decals. I am sorry I have checked few hundreds sheets a while ago - strangely all decal sheets have printed decals for instruments - numbers 22-28, do they Mr Crowley? It is also shown in instructions where and how to place them. From someone with such an experience and seeing every little flash I would expect to see also decals
From the other hand, the canvas missing in the kit is a thing I was not happy with, and probably I should have waited another 2 months with the kit release for the canvas mold to be finished. But probably then also many would complain even more about its price added to the kit price. So here or there, it would be always kinda problem about it. It is just like accessories missing in first 2 Mirror releases, just like mentioned above, C15TA and Otter missed a few details, some I would call optional, some should have been there, agreed, it was not the best thing, but it happened, but it was 2 kits released at the beginning, and although there was no any later kit made this way, all the kits released since have been told the same, so if there is any upgrade set for this or that, obviously it is always because it is missing in the kit. First there were guys complaining about PE included in the kit, and when these parts are made rather in plastic and PE upgrades offered separately only for those interested in better detail, it is also wrong (BTW, above linked Indian PE detail set HAD plastic option for every part in base kit, just like the other kits except those two I have mentioned here) - but it does not bother me anymore, especially if these things come always from the same guys before, now, next time.
So well, a few negative comments (some a little confusing, some not 100% true)compared to all the positive emails, WIP images from many guys and a few already finished builds I have seen - in my opinion a quite nice score for the wrecker kit. I am not David Cooperfield and cannot make everyone happy. Besides in my opinion some comments here do not give much credit to their writer rather than to the kit, because they are not always true. And these I find true I will use and try improve for the next time. My kits are not Tamiya kit that is right, there are things I have been trying to get better with every kit, and I will keep working on it, but I am not going to simplify things or reduce details. Who is happy with it and does not mind some effort to get outstanding result, will be probably still happy with my kits, who does not mind lack of details or wall thickness bigger than my gates and wants standard kit, will probably build some other Diamond kit just like that one I have handled a couple of days ago, and who is bothered with cutting, cleaning, sorting many parts etc, will probably reach for LEGO next time (there is no need to look for decals). It will not be me for sure, maybe later, when I get enough experience on building kits

Hi Libor,
I have seen the pictures here on the net of the WIP being built... I cant understand what the problem is..... As far as I am concerned the people that are complaining should think back to last year when they couldn't get a Diamond Wrecker anywhere on the planet because the companies that do everything right hadn't bothered their arses to do one...
they would prefer to release another Pz 3, Sherman, Ford Mutt, Opel Blitz .... or a tank that didn't get out of the prototype stage....
So I say congratulations to you for having the balls to stick it to the big companies with your new releases.... I don't mind if the sprue is bigger then the Dragon or Tamiya ones!! at least the parts will be in one piece when it gets to my house...... And as for the price!! Well I like to keep my Bricks and mortar Model shop in work but I will not let them shaft me...and if the price is too much I will tell them so... not let them ride me then go on the net and complain like de-flowered prom queen that regrets it in the morning.

Keep up the good work and remember if they arnt talking about you there is something wrong!

Rant over
Build and be happy.

Hi libor, I've started my wrecker awhile ago and have enjoyed the build so far, The only improvement i can see with the kit is the size of the part numbers on the sprues, Barely visible on most of them, otherwise well done.

I also started very slowly, because I am building also White 666, M19 Tank Transporter. Model no problems. Yes it is not ready for the weekend.
What kind of adhesive is good to use? I use Revell contact, and it's not very good for this model

Hi, All! Let's not forget that MIRROR MODELS is NOT a huge model manufacturer such as TAMIYA, DRAGON, TRUMPETER/HOBBY BOSS, etc, but a small plastic injection company serving a very small niche in the modelling community. I can think of a few DOGS that the supposed "premium" model manufacturers have foisted upon us in the past. I WILL NOT NAME NAMES... We should be happy that MIRROR has taken the initiative to provide us with subjects that the "mainstream" model manufacturers would never even consider putting into production. Have a nice day...

I agree, $90 is outrageous , remind's me of Tasca Models. $100 + for a sherman kit with Vinyl tracks? lol Should be metal link tracks for that price at least.

Wow,

Interesting thread , this wrecker is a challenge to build ,working on this now and the parts are very intricate but with a sharp number 11 blade there has been no issues.

Detail is pretty good for plastic ,Agree with Ross(aka Mulligan) the sprue number id is a little small but one of the better things is the instructions . They are clearly laid out by page number and a build sequence and tackle every section of the wrecker in cad detail.

Tamiya thin and medium glues, Revell contacta and super glue all work for glueing parts on this model .The Tamiya glues create a better bond than the others

This is my first Mirror Models kit and will not be my last.

for the grave_digger:

Hopefully everyone will consider this as a constructive, construction query concerning the Mirror Diamond T:

I have the desire to put the hard cab from the cargo truck on the wrecker. Do you see any major conversion problems with this? I would assume the two cabs are interchangable, Yes?

Thanks - the Chassis Man

p.s. And thanks for all the great mechanical detail you have built into this model!!!

Sure I try to save money wherever possible - got my wrecker from a vendor at the Louisville Armor Modelers Show for $60 USD but modeling is a lot like war, you usually don't ask "how much" you just ask "how soon" and "how good"?.

Initial frame assembly:

I changed the suggested assembly order in that the instructions called for placing the forward winch assembly first but I felt the assembly was just too fidley to properly support the front end of the frame. Instead I attached the bumper to firmly support the forward end of the frame.

Progress on the engine:

See the small white spacer that I have added to the above photo to take the place of a missing part? - Use caution regarding part #C27 which first appears at the bottom of page 2 in the diagrams but is not identified there. It then appears as already installed at the top of page 3. I missed that item entirely during the assembly.

Michael

Good call on the winch assembly. I glued mine in too early, and it prevented the radiator from fitting correctly, which then caused fit problems with the hood and louvred sides.

The radiator is a challenge to assemble, as parts C3 and C4 don't fit flush to parts C1 and C2. I also had trouble fitting the radiator pan, C5 into its allotted space between the engine and the winch assembly.

Do a lot of test fitting in this area as it really has a big impact on how well the cab/hood/louvered sides/radiator fit together.

I scratch built the I-beam for the hoist assembly. It was easier than trying to get rid of the seams where parts X49 and X50 join.

Overall, this kit builds up into a great looking truck, but you have to be on your toes!

Hi Michael,
Challenge to build such a nice truck.
Here's a link to another build. Some pretty pictures at least.

Seems there was a contest for the model by Mirror Models.

I will follow your build with interest.

Cheers,

Thanks Robert

It looks like I have a few more booby traps to work through in the instruction sheet!

In any case it builds up into a fantastically detailed model.

On that forum is also another build going on. Strong words & frustrations about the fit, 'problems' and more 'problems'. But the guy in the link I gave you is a real modeler. He finds solutions by facing the so called 'problems'.
