Jim,Here's where I stand. The ad panel overlap problem has been fixed,Thanks. My only issue now is that the site page is still too wide.I tried bumping up my screen res.(I was at 1024x768)but to get the whole page to fit it made the text size so small it was hard to read.
I do like the new format though, thanks for all you do,Jeff Tucker

Hi Jeff,
At this point about 9% of our users (I just checked) use 1024 x 768. So not really a small amount and I wish there was an easy fix for this. Sadly there is not a lot I can do in the short term to make this more user-friendly for that resolution (and smaller). Did you try using the zoom feature to step it back to say 90%? Hopefully that would be one way around the issue.

Thanks,
Jim

Well that was sort of a challenge so I did some work on this tonight actually. For those who have a smaller display you will likely see an improvement if your screen window size is below 1024 pixels. However I am using a cookie to store this screen size value once when you first arrive. So changing your window size after the fact will not change anything (unless you clear the cookie).

I will check this out on my iPad and see how it looks.

Cheers,
Jim

Here's some more info,The problem only seems to be with my XP machines.Site works fine with Windows 7 and My Ipad.In order to get a usable page size, with XP,I have to zoom out to 80%,which makes things very small.Jeff T.

Okay for those wanting a dark background, you can chose that option under Settings > Modify Profile. There is a 'paper' option as well. More of a beige really.

You will need to be LOGGED IN for this option to work however. And it will work across all sites as well.

Cheers,
Jim

Thanks Jim! I was starting to acquire a suntan.

But on a serious note, thanks for giving us an awesome place that doesn't require a boatload of $$ to hang out and have fun!

Hi Jeff,
XP or Windows 7 shouldn't affect the code change I made last night. And since the cookie didn't exist before last night you shouldn't be able to have 'bad info' about your window size.

Can you send me a screen shot of how the site looks on your XP machine? What browser are you using?

Thanks,
Jim

Jeff,
Sorry... try it again. I thought I was being smart last night putting my new cookie creating file in a directory named /etc but that apparently is a protected type directory name that doesn't allow cookie creation in PHP. doh...

I definitely prefer the old page design. When I logged on I said to myself "W-T-F. Where am I???" Sorry, I just don't like it.

I have to admit,I'm with you on that.

Sorry Tom. Apparently I am not in-tune with Canadians on this one.

I am making changes and improvements where I can though. The old page however is not coming back so I would respectfully ask people to give constructive feedback and/or adapt.

Thanks,
Jim

Hi

I like the new design, although since I'm using a high res, I have a lot of space between the body and the ads.

The white is a little too white for me with the new design, I don't mind the dark, but I like the idea of the paper color, i.e. beige.

I would suggest maybe the beige becoming a little more darker. maybe something along the lines of #DDD37E, kind of a halfway point between the light and the dark..

and don't worry, I'll adapt, as I'm sure we all will..

thank you for keeping this great community up to date and modern. On the web if you don't keep up to date, you fall to the wayside..

And when I click on any of the tabs,I get this For some reason the page shifts.
I tried firefox ,just for giggles, and it's the same way.Hope you can figure it out, cause I sure can't Jeff T.

Jeff,
Ah... I think I know what is happening for you and some others.

Let me do some magic.... [sounds of things getting banged on]

Okay try it now. You will need to hit a second page though like you did this time.

Cheers,
Jim

PS: You had a cached CSS style-sheet with outdated info so I changed the name of the file that is included.

Jeff,
Actually I see the issue on your screen shot. The new feature worked and moved the ads to the right. Except you have your browser window shifted to the right as well. Move your window back to the left and that should be it.
