Heller/Airfix have a 1/72 Jeep (yes, 1/72, not Airfix's traditional 1/76), and it's generally considered the best in that scale (and the new Dragon version apparently does little to challenge that conclusion) -- although it's by no means perfect.

(Note that Airfix also have a Jeep in 1/76, that comes with their old LVT kit, and it's generally considered to be pretty poor.)

Stefan,

You've done a very detailed and concise review of this release. I question the logic of boxing the new jeep with the venerable old Sherman. With the small size of the Jeeps they might have served the diorama modeller better by releasing it as a dual or triple kit with different accessories (a roof tarp or varied storage or weapons).

It is a great pleasure to see that Dragon has finally provided the builder with information about the nature of the DS tracks. Far too many have found in the past that their length did not correspond to what was required and were at a loss to find a way to compensate for any discrepancies. It also would have been a nice change to see some figures provided with the kit (after all, Airfix, Matchbox and others have provided figures with even their older kits).

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks for your comments and your thoughts on the subject, Jan. I believe there is a separate release of the Jeep in the works with two to as set, don't know about any add-ons or where I picked this info up.

Bruce, I hadn't realized Airfix did anything in 1/72, probably to fit the aircraft?

Cheers!

Actually Setan, the Dragon Web Site had a "preview" of a twin pack of Jeeps to be released this summer. They are in an exaggerated sense, Gun-Trucks with PE armour plates and choice of three pedestal mounted weapons (.30 cal, .50 cal. or twin Bazookas). It's been assigned the kit number 7423 and I believe that it was announced as a news release here.

Cheers,
Jan

Thanks for this review, and I echo Jan's thoughts. I was surprised myself to see the Jeep packaged with the Sherman rather than being a two pack. I didn't really care for the box art, but the CAD images for the Jeep drew my interest so I picked one up.
