That's a very cool looking vehicle. Is it basically a regular Land Rover all the way up to the first set of rear tires.. and then the extra part and second set of rear tires added to it?

its wider than a reg land rover,longer chassis. so far bit of work but its on my todo list

G'day Bill,

Terry is right. The 6x6x is wider across and longer in the chassis. There re parts from the defender you can use, but apart from that it is a big job. The 4x4 SRV should not be to hard to convert.

As the others havesaid the 6X6 LRPV is wider and longer than the standard 110. BTW Perentie was the project name only and refers to all the members of the family that were purchased under it and not just the LRPV. In addition there were numerous 4X4 and 6X6 variants purchased under Project Perentie. It is very sad to see the loser of the original project will be the replacement.
As jason said the 4X4 SF variant and the Regional Force Surveillance variants may be better options for conversions from the HB kit.

I bought plans from Mouse House and saw that someone had built one up almost to completion a while ago but nothing since. It certainly is an exotic variant and it captured my interest.
Any companies out there planning to release a conversion ;o)

The replacement for the standard 4x4 GS 110 will be the merc G wagon which is a pretty poor substitute for a landy. The LRPV is in the process of being changed over to the Nary (Australian Variant of the Jackal) although I believe that is still some time off yet due to problems with some equipment fit.
The other 6X6 variants are being replaced by a variety of vehicles from memory.

And even though they're underpowered, uncomfortable and have the worlds worst turning circle I'd love to pick up a bloodbox and convert it too a camper.

Man i would love one of those machines ..it be very very useful getting in and out of some of the airsoft fields i fight on .. we have had some really good and one pretty well modified 4X4 get stuck so this being 6X6

If i remember right dont they have an Isuzu engines ? if so very easy to get more power out of it

I know that Land Rover had a plant in Australia but I am not sure if they only produced series 3 vehicles. Are the current Land Rovers being sold in Australia made in Australia and were the Perentie vehicles fabricated there with specific military mods or was there another factory that just did military vehicles?
While I was in Tassie the Land Rover wasn't considered a "tough" enough vehicle and most everyone seemed to prefer the Series 70 Land Cruisers. Did Toyota bid on the MOD contracts? It seems very odd that Australia would import the G Wagen if it already has a factory to manufacture Land Rovers on island?
The Canadians have the G Wagen as well but I have heard that they are not armoured enough to be used anywhere with bullets flying around (same could be said of any light skinned vehicle though hence the evolution of the HMMWV).
The first I ever heard of the Perentie was with "The Bush Tucker Man", I watched every episode and thought that his ride was the quintessential off road vehicle.

I have just got this months Military Machines International, there is a very nice combat camera feature on these land rovers.

Let me also add my 2 cents to this thread...

Definately IŽd like to see someone converting one of the 1/35 LR kits into the Aussie version. Among all the different modifications they have I prefere this RFSU vehicle...

JRA (jaguar Rover Australia) at Moorebank NSW WAS the producer of all the Australian Army LR and did produce Defender 110's for the local market. That ceased in the 90's and JRA went bankrupt. All civilian LR after that were imported.

The toyota LC is always trumpeted as superior but during my military days we recovered a lot of the suppossed "King of the outback", Toyota promote it as the vehicle that built the Snowy Mt scheme but the actual truth is less flattering to the Toyota as the LR was used in the initial years of the project when it was virgin country with little in the way of tracks or roads. Thiess the major contractor brought in the toyots when there was a semblance of structured tracks etc.
I am no fan of any 4WD that has the spare below the vehicle particularly like the Cruisers do. It helps to dig the vehicle in if you get bogged by pulled down the tail and acting as a tailplane in the mud.
The original UK supplied Ser 1 and 2 LR had very poor and underpowered motors for australia and it is common to see these re motored with a small holden 6 cyl engine which gives an excellent 4 WD.
