I have little experience with DOA paints, as I have brushed them just one time - but I was very satisfied with the result. I have used some of the pigments, and the result was equally good: the pigments mixed nicely with paints, brushed very well on the model straight from the bottle and their shade and color is spot on. add to that some great service (on the two orders I've made, Brain was the one who contacted me to check whether or not I have received the package(!) and when a delay showed, he was more then willing to help sort out the matter) and you've got a great paint supplier. I know when I'll be getting my paints from now

Their logo is the same one used on the conning tower of U-552, Ritterkreuz winner Eric Topp's famous U-boat. I presume that's where the name comes from, too?

That monster in 1/72nd is in my stash. Still need a #$%^-load of PE and it calls out for a scratch-built pressure hull inside the drain holes.

just sprayed track brown on 2 sets of tracks, very satisfied with results. I only that in my case a drop or two of water (literally - a drop!) was needed to thin the paint.

I just put a model up in the Constructive Feedback forum where I made use of Brian's pigments.
It's the M8 Greyhound.

Ok ..even though I promised the air guys a Luftwaffe set..(soon guys soon..) I also worked today on a color several people have requested. And once I get a few requests I start to investigate....(This is how the track color came about.)

Here is a German Red Oxide Primer..RAL 8012 I developed this afternoon.

Basically two prototypes. A is a tad darker and less "orange". This is pretty darn close from my research.

Let me know what you folks think and which one you guys think is closest to the mark. I know it is hard to tell by photos but do you best and if you need the stuff shot on something let me know and I will find a scrap piece of plastic to fire it at. I shot it on white paper for these samples.



(Oh and Matan...I am about an hours worth of work time from a "Mid East Armor Set".....LOL )

I will have a sample of the Israeli Sand Gray in the next few hours and need some feedback on that one as well. (I'll get to those Luftwaffe colors ....later..yea that's it..)

Today's labor has finally paid off and I have an Israeli Sand Gray prototype.

Our Sand Gray Prototype is the top chip. Testor's Model Master Israeli Armor Sand Gray is the bottom chip.
As you can see the Model Master's is darker and "greener".

I assume your going for the older pre 1973 color.

From what I see it looks good. I don't have any of that color on hand, the testors looks more like the 1973 color.

Was shooting for this one:

Israeli Sand Grey 61-73

tweaked it a bit...now we are looking at "C"

"C" is to dark for the 1967 color and looks to light for the 1973 color, but close. At least based on those chips from the second link.

How are you doing the match? Mark I eyeball and a color wheel or a spectrometer?

Im using the ole "eyeball" method ...not very scientific but has worked pretty well so far.

I guess what I have now is a pre 73 and after 73. Which is even better..two new shades!


So now I am considering having:
A-pre 73 Israeli Sand Gray

and a "C", modern IDF Sand gray with a slightly more brown touch to it.

I try to keep things a little on the lighter side of the spectrum...for scale effect as well as us putting washes and filters, etc on top of the paint.

A Mid East amor set will have all three above, plus US OD, Black and an Eqyptian Green I am planning on starting on tonight.

It will be a big set with six colors. The biggest to date.

What do you guys think of that?

I would like to add:

I just used some of Brian's paint (dark yellow) on some unprimed wine bottle foil strips to make seat belts.
Bent them into shape with no cracking or flaking at all.

I noticed this too, I'm building a Tamiya M3, the kits tracks were short shot and I'm using a pair of AFV Club tracks instead, I'm amazed how much flex this stuff takes.

AND DOA makes a track color, which is an acrylic version of the old favorite Humbrol track color. I bought some and I now consider it the ONLY paint to use on vinyl tracks!

The stuff is pretty amazing.
I will have some new colors available this weekend.
