In the review, you mention the following:



What is the "Type4B-1"? Is that from the Ampersand Sherman guide? If so, that is a designation made up by the authors and is not a real designation for any Sherman part. The use of fake designations like that only lead to confusion among those who don't know any better.

The curved strip you refer to is the attachment strip for the bow machine gun cover.

This Sherman shouldn't have any casting numbers or symbols on the glacis as it is appears to be based on a M4A1 produced by Pressed Steel Car like this one

PSC was the only company to build Shermans with rivetted lower hulls and built them this way until early '43. More images of the PSC Sherman can be found HERE.

Thanks Chris - yep, the Ampersand book. I'll edit it out. I got the casting numbers thing cleared up today by Zaloga who talked about casting numbers only on the transmission cover although (once again ) the Ampersand book has casting numbers on the front of the glacis.. Oh, and while we're at it, the Ampersand plans are about 5mm out as well...

There would be casting symbols on the glacis of a M4A1 built by General Steel(like the old DML kit) but as Steve Z. said, no numbers.

The new M51 has the General steel crest in the hull but it is a bit thick and overdone and the casting is more like the Adobe car then cast steel in some places. The Tasca stuff looks great and the textures look nice and subtle and would be easy to rough up a little bit. I have never been one much for Shermans but with the new DML ones and the incredible Tasca ones they are quickly stacking up in the stash and on the shelf. I definitely will pick one of these buggers up With a nice PE set with some front fenders, clamps and headlight brackets and a little Mr Surfacer it will look awesome.

Thanks for the review, so would you say that this kit is a gift from the Sherman GOD? I am not a big Sherman freak like some guys are but I have been waiting on this kit for a while.
You know me I will come up with some obscure paint job and markings, actually I will mark it as an M-4 of the 2nd Armored division in Tunisia, I have a few images of these tanks from my days working with the 2AD Museum. Mrosko

Some you-beaut additions here, including the horn and guard, the separated .50cal components, the choice of air filters and the separate foul weather attachment strip etc. The two part guntube sucks the big one though
As you say it can be replaced easily enough

Excellent review Jim of what looks like a great kit. Strangely enough my idea for this kit is to show it upside down as a tank that has slid off the road. Tasca's excellent sponsons and suspension seem to make this kit perfect for that.
