Revell of Germany announced the release of the Dingo 2 kit in early 2013; scheduled for release toward the final quarter of 2013, the kit hit the shelves in October 2013.

The ATF Dingo 2 is development of the Allschutz-Transport-Fahrzeug (all-protected transport vehicle) Dingo, produced by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW). With the V-shaped deflector hull mated to the UNIMOG U5000 chassis, the Dingo 2 can carry a heavier payload and offers greater protection than its predecessor. There are two wheelbase versions, 3250 mm(3.5 tonnes payload) and 3850 mm (4 tonnes). The vehicle accommodates up to eight personnel, and is armed as standard with the MG3 mounted on a KMW 1530 overhead weapon station. The PatSi (Patrouillen und Sicherungsfahrzeug or patrol and support vehicle) is the standard protected patrol vehicle of the German Bundeswehr. It is well known from its use with the GECONISAF in Afghanistan.

Packed in Revell’s standard side-opening box, the kit consists of eight green sprues, two clear sprues, four vinyl tyres, a small sheet of decals and a piece of wire. The quality of the sprues is good overall, with just a little flash, and any knock-out points are all on the inside of the parts.

The complex UNIMOG suspension and drivetrain is well reproduced and there is even an engine underneath the hood. The tyres are made of black vinyl with a well replicated XZL profile, but do not feature a manufacturer’s marking. Hopefully, we will see some appropriate resin replacements soon. The interior of the protected superstructure is nicely done, but is simplified in some areas. This is especially noticeable with the KMW 1539 OWS (Overhead Weapons Station), which lacks the prominent cranks for both azimuth and elevation movements; this, too, gives the aftermarket industry scope for upgrade sets.

Decals are provided for four vehicles:
1. Bundeswehr Mission Training 2011 in Germany
2. Bundeswehr ISAF Afghanistan 2010
3. Bundeswehr ISAF Afghanistan 2012
4. Czech Army 2010

Revell only provide color information for their own paint range, and indicate mixing the UTF color yourself.
SUMMARY
Highs: Easy to build kit of the Dingo 2 with some great potential of scratch-builders
Lows: Vinyl tires might be a letdown for some modellers.
Verdict: Good reproduction of one of the main systems of the Bundeswehr in styrene. The modular construction may suggest that other version may be coming.

Thanks for the quick review Hans-Hermann. What do you think of the details? I guess they are the usual quality of Revell's kits. Olivier

Has the quality of revell change since I was younger I remember it was almost toy like. Haven't bought anything from revell since then when I was younger. What type of model type are they like trumpeter were its some what to scale or like tamiya is a little not to scale. If you know what I mean. Any help would be appreciated. Happy modeling

I'd say the newer Revell Germany kits are close to Meng in quality, including this one. Where they fall down is the vision blocks on some of their kits, and while the interior is a little simplified, there are PE sets out for this kit now
